Hello everyone, I’ve just purchased a new Henglong Panther G. I’ve been lurking here reading all I can about modifying and painting the tank, battery life and general newbie stuff. I’ve been modeling for years, check my work out on Instagram “Jpaw_33”. I’ve reslotted my 1st two road wheel spring to help the front sit higher, should I do the last arm b4 the idler? I will take any good advise on the tank and I’ll post my progress. It’s apart and primed in oxide red now.
    thanks, John P.

Looking good John. Being that youre an experienced modeler I'm going to watch your posts to guide me. I also have a HL Panther G but havent done the paint work like yours because I wasnt confident yet. I've only weathered and upgraded it. I look forward to see how yours comes along.

As per the suspension springs, I read about this as well. So when I upgraded to steel road wheels I checked the spring clocking.I found that the first front inner wheel and last rear outer wheel were already on the firmer settings, the rest on the softer setting. I changed the second front outer road wheel to the firmer and left the rest. I find that it rides and looks good. Of course we could always drill other holes for even firmer settings but I didnt think I needed that.

Keep it up. I look forward to you sharing more of your kitty project.

    Chef

I’m keeping it fairly simple, paint, decals, weathering which will consist of washes and chipping. Just painted the tracks and base coated the roadwheels. Besides the priming, everything will be done with mig ammo acrylics thru an airbrush. Hope you can pick up a few pointers! I’m still an r/c tank newbie!!

Theres definitely knowledge floating around here RC, DIY and Fabrication wise. I know nothing compared to most of these guys. I only give advice on things I have personal experience with IE the HL Panther G, the known spring suspension topic and I also have experience upgrading, painting and weathering the metal wheels and bluing/burnishing the metal tracks. I've found a decent combo for painting and weathering plastic tracks too but I like to see what others do.

I cut 1/4” pieces of sewing pins, drill a small hole to catch 1 side of the pin and wedged and glued them in. I don’t think they look half bad.

I'm just finishing a Tamiya Panther G and I wish I knew about those casting decals before. Looks really good and actually I do think most RC tank enthusiasts do pick up on those little details.

Did the road wheels base coat and rubber black today. All the insides of the wheels will be in primer red.

Camo is on! Went with the late war colors. I’ll gloss coat it then the decals and weathering to tone it down. Happy with it so far.

Awesome, she's coming along nicely. Did you do that freehand with an airbrush or a masking method?

I've been looking at the Jagdpanther in Munster for inspiration for my next project.

I lightly drew the pattern on with a pencil, then freehanded it following my lines. The pattern was from an old 1/35 Tamiya Panther G direction sheet I did years ago.

Lots of roadwheels to paint. Just did the first pin wash on them, I’ll clean them up when it dries.

Painting is done, just placed the hull and turret together for a quick photo shoot, she’s still rocking her gloss coat. Time to attach the turret and turret ring, do the magnet upgrade for the hull attachment and dull her down with a spray of flat coat. Still a few more details to add, tow cables, shackles and the new A.A. Machine gun and dirty up the exhaust. I can’t decide if I should muddy her up. Thanks for checking her out!! JP.

Thanks man, I think it looks much better than the factory original paint. Alittle disappointed in the aftermarket decals as the carrier film is thick, even with a good gloss coat base and setting solution the film stands out a tad.

Were yours Peddinghaus? If so, I've had the same experience. By far the best decals I've found are at "Forgebear", in UK. I don't know what the German range is, but the Allies range is great. They do show stock Heng Long was well as their products, so pick with care. Theirs are absolutely invisible when applied correctly.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Yes sir they were Peddinghaus. They say in their directions that they have a thin film, they do not!! Thanks, I’ll check out Forgebear decals.

Really nice paint job. I love how your tank is coming out. Did the decal for the fire extinguisher come as part of a set? Are you a sponge, brush or hairspray chipper? I personally don't have the hand dexterity for brush chipping. I'm going to try a multi layer hairspray chipping process on my new project. I see you primed it first but did you remove the original paint before priming?

Sorry for all the questions but I warned you.

                                        Thanks,

                                        Chef

PS Oh and I vote for dirt/mud. All my tanks are girls and I Love dirty girls.
