  • What motor for a Taigen is more representative of scale speed?

In anticipation of returning to tanks this summer I want to review how best to slow down the Taigen Sherman, Panzer III and King Tiger. I do know this topic about motors has been addressed but can't find it. Apparently, I don't have the hand skill to use the existing "progressive speed" function.

I assume you are still using the Taigen Torro V3 electronics? If so the two best ways are one to swap out the gearboxes to 4:1 vs the 3:1 you currently have. Two run the lower voltage 7.2 NiMH batteries. These average 6.4-7.6 volts. If you are using Lipo or Li Ion 7.4 volt batteries these are actually putting out 8.4 volts. That little extra really is noticeably faster.

Motors? Again I assume you have the black Taigen 380s. Those are actually decent motors for low speed maneuvering and you need them and their slightly higher torque vs HL stock 380s to be able to turn the heavy Taigen tanks at low speeds. Changing motors to 280s would kill your ability to turn on anything other then hard smooth surfaces.

Thank you, sir. Good point about the weight.

Very good points. My Tiagen Tiger is H E A V Y compared to any of my HL's obviously. And Yes their motors have a noticeable grunt as compared. Besides changing the gearing which I considered but have decided not to the Biggest difference is the Electronics. The Taigen is Twitchy. It takes a bit more concentration to keep my Tiger at slower more scale speeds. But damn it's fun to punch it when I want to get out of a sticky situation. My HL 7.0's are more gradual possibly more precise.

I've seen it discussed before I but cant find the posts. How would swapping Heng Long 6.0 or higher electronics work out? I'd expect they'd be compatible and you'd gain the HL IR battle system, you'd just have to wire in the IR transmitter and receiver. Has anyone done this? Any links to it?

I'd almost like to try it but I wouldn't want to lose the Tiger sounds if I swapped in the HL 7.0.

Going to a HL 7.0-7.1 is super easy because Taigen/Torro use mostly HL off the shelf systems or compatible systems. With 7.0-7.1 you have the ability to run the tank in a “low power” mode which will greatly reduce the speed. You can also set the braking dynamics, rate of turn, recoil and turret speed. All these help you set up your tank to better mimic the performance of a WW2 era tank.

The manual for the 7.0-7.1 explains how to to all this.

Thank you. Yes I have several Heng Long 7.0 versions so I have good experience with them. I like the way they handle compared to my Taigen. I was curious if others have done the conversion, and all of my 7.0's do not have a Tiger I sound. I know you can find them on ebay I just never thought it was that important to do the conversion.

            Good Info thanks,

            Chef

If you do the conversation go with the 7.1 system. More options for future upgrades and they are more often Tiger and Leopard engines
