ive got a old m26 pershing that had a crcuit bord reciever ive taken theat out and im installing a 7.1 board in.
the on off switch has 2 red wires on it and 1 black wire do i need all the red wires or just the red and balck and do they just connect straight to the board .also does the battery connect straight to the board ?

Battery connects directly to the board. Make sure you have the polarity correct or you'll smoke the board.
It sounds like you have a double throw power switch. If there are three terminals on the bottom off the switch you need to use the middle and only one of the two other terminals. Those two wires will plugs directly into CN1 of the 7.1 board. Follow the photo below for your other connections.

The on/off switch for HL is a simple two-wire, open closed circuit. Throw that old three-wire switch away, or re-wire it as CC described.
Twenty six tanks, and not done yet!

In older Pershing (both 2.7MHz and V5.3 2.4GHz), the SP2T power switch is electrically connected to the battery and MFU power input. In the OFF position, the battery is open and the MFU B+ is connected to ground.

From V6.0 and up, the RC receiver motherboard has an external power switch, CN1, which needs only a SPST on-off switch. The original switch can be used in the on-off mode. No grounding is required. The battery is connected to the MB power input directly.

27 MHz MFU vs. V6.0S 2.4 GHz MB.

Switch (small gauge red-black wires) and battery connection (heavier white-black wires with XT-60 connection).

I have encountered no problem converting the switch during the upgrade.

You can use the old switch as is. No need to throw it away. Just connect CN1 to the 2 terminals at the on position which are the 2 closer to the rear (motors).

The 7.1 motherboard is thicker than the TK-18 MFU and does not fit the original receiver location. You may have to replace the speaker with thinner one to new location and relocate the MB like I did.

The more difficult part than the on-off switch are the multiple connection form the torrent rotation, gun elevation and airsoft firing. You need multiple wires and new connectors (JST XH 2.5 2 Pin Female Connector Plug). From TK-18 to V7.1 will need very careful bookkeeping of the wire functions. It is NOT difficult, just tedious. The TK-18 uses multi-function connector that have shared return wire. You will need to duplicate some of them. Good luck.

It is strongly recommended that you get a good electrical schematic of your current Pershing wiring before you start. Heng Long do a very good job making their tank backward compatible. I upgraded from a 2005 Snow Leopard with discrete receiver board to RX-18 27MHz MB to v5.3 2.4GHz to V6.0S 2.4GHz without losing any turret function and greatly improve the driving quality. The V6.0S MB is cheap and has very good proportional speed control. I see no reason to go with the more expensive 7.0/7.1.

I should be able to help many of your wiring questions. Please, send your questions with a picture whenever possible. Below is some of my wiring diagram collection that may be of use to you. Your new MB should come with a connecting diagram.

Good luck with your upgrade project. It is really fun and rewarding. Well, may be some challenges in-between.
