  • SPEKTRUM into TAMYIA Question

Hello all, had a question for those in the know! Is there any rocket science involved to using SPEKTRUM in a TAMIYA M1A2? I just bought the one that has been sitting in my local hobby shop for a couple of years. I use SPEKTRUM to fly, and would love to be able to use it in this Abrams. Transmitter is an iX12. Thanks in advance.

Should be no problem at all. I run Spectrums on my Tamiya Abrams and Sheridan.

Hello and thanks for the reply! I wasn't able to find any solid information with the web searches I've done. There's actually a thread on here but it doesn't really clarify anything. I've watched a couple of build videos on this model and it looks like it's pretty in-depth! I just really wanted that gun feature that this model has where the barrel stays level over terrain and simulates tracking a target.

Just so you know it does not track targets. It will stay generally in the direction you point the gun as the tank turns. The gyro stabilization of the gun is slow to respond and only works well at low speeds.

This is not a function of the radio it is just how the Tamiya DMD works.

Thanks. Obviously I didn't expect to actually track a target. I'm fully aware it's just an expensive toy. If the Heng Long version did the same thing I wouldn't buy the Tamiya. I could buy 4 of them compared to the Tamiya. I just admire the fact that they tried to simulate what the Abrams does in actual operation, plus having actual rubber track pads.
