  • Rebuilding a broken "Comet"

Rebuilt a fellow CanAm RC Club member's "Comet".

Based off a T-34 chassis, with a A-34 Comet upper. I was tasked with rebuilding the turret as Recoil was non-functional. Replace PoS HL apple mount with a tamiya TBU Base. Plus some minimal other upgrades without costing a fortune...
Customer also wanted turret mounted on/off switch and accepted that it would not be in the battery circuit.
    Re-use existing Clark TK-22,

First thing was to strip the junk from the lower hull (Hull is already magnetized and had an OK battery box sealing.
Cleaned up the battery box and bad cut job from the original "mechanic".
Added a partial resin pour to make a nice even mounting surface.

Custom modified Clark mount for space claiming. I wasn't going to go hog wild on this lower hull due to the glued down components and hacked rear for gearboxes.
Added a stiffening brace for hull flex and an elevated board mount for airflow and battery space.
TK-22 so factory speaker kept. Motors, speaker and Ch1-4 cables installed in this image. I like it tidy...

This is where all the work had to be done. The roof was the easiest access point, so out with an exacto.
Cut the two upper hull roof panels away and cleared it all out.
The geared recoil unit had jammed up at some point, tearing the geared teeth off and splitting the mount under the servo.
Rebuild the servo platform with stiffeners and added a custom barrel retaining block for recoil action.
Switch mount, TBU mount and all the roof magnet mounts put it. Later added a center stiffener for installing the TBU.

I did mention I like tanks neat and tidy right?
This is a fully wired interior shot of the Comet. Only things missing is the RX and the IR bulb is not plugged in.
Tamiya connector as requested by Customer...
