  • 1/16 Heng long M1A2 Abrams

I purchased a 1/16 Henglong M1A2 Abrams tank from an individual and the overall condition is pretty good, I thought. The lower plastic hull or chassis(I'm not sure which is the correct term for it) is cracked. The drive-line, electronics, suspension, and other equipment are in good working order. The upper deck ,turret assembly, gun all work great as well. I only need a new or used lower chassis/hull and I can do the repair myself. Please tell if I am wrong but the only way I have been able find it is with all the parts that I don't need. As I stated before, those parts and systems are fine. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Dave Priddy

There are two versions of the Abrams. The older 5.2/5.3 and newer 6.0/7.0 hulls. The two hulls have some major difference. It would help to know which one you have in order to better assist you.

There are really decent styrene or ABS glues that are capable of melting the plastic back together. If it's a low stress area you can just fix it. It could also be reinforced with some sheet styrene depending on location. I was recently on AliExpress trying to find an Abrams plastic hull and had no luck finding one.

Can you post a photo of what is "cracked". It might be easier and cheaper to fix.

If the parts are stock and some 2 part epoxy may be able to repair it, just looking forward to the picture of the actual damage of the hull and see if how can you repair it.

You may want to use the model number to search for the parts from aliexpress

An all metal upgrade lower chassis kit is available which will not crack.

At $151 shipped in the US, it does not make sense to sell major chassis components of the plastic Abrams. The shipping cost of a large part like the lower chassis will make it not economic feasible.

I hope @davepriddy14 paid a lot less than $150 for the cracked tank. It is not easy to crack a Heng Long tank hull.

I would try Weldon 3. Its water thin and is for acrylic but works great on styrene. Use an artist brush or a syringe to apply it. use another piece of styrene to place over the crack and apply more glue. Let dry 24 hours. This glue actually melts the plastic back together
