The plastic version cross current gearbox is much cheaper.

Below is a cheaper alternative to run HL sprockets and compatible tracks. I would stay away from the cheapest ones, "plastic" versions of the dual current drives.

It would need 63mm-65mm shafts to be able to use HL Abrams sprockets and run other aftermarket higher quality tracks.

The shafts length needs to be between 63mm and 65mm to be able to aline the HL Abrams sprockets accordingly on the M60.
The mounting plate takes a little thought to install, but is rather forgiving with unconventional mounting methods. If you don't overthink the install method it is actually very easy to achieve a solid installation.

The DC units are pretty powerful and have excellent low speed as well as high speed performance. Can't see a reason to run the lower gear ratio in anything Cold War era or newer.

Because it does not change the overall size of the unit so I agree why the use of the lower motor position is interesting. I have a few DC units all "high speed" versions with the 540 motor on top. No one local has the lower motor arrangement, but then they also all have the "high speed" gear ratios too.

What's funny is a few months ago I was looking for the slower 1/48 gear ratio and I can't find them anywhere except like Forgebear. Link to the site: https://www.toucanhobby.com/products...2c3c69b3&_ss=r

As far as gear ratios go, the HL standard gear ratio is 33:1 while the taigen gear ratio is 39:1 tamiya is 69:1
I have found I prefer the taigen gear ratio to use in my buildsRC tank parts and accessories I make

The Heng Long metal enclosed gearboxes come in a 1/56 ratio. I have them installed in my KV-1 and SU-152. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...Cquery_from%3A
