  • Tongde US M60A3 Professional Plus Edition

Motion RC shows a "professional Plus" version of the TD M60A3. What do you get for $130 over the Professional version?

In the product picture, I see an electroplated metal track. It should add no more than $10 to the price.

You get painted wheels, black metal track, servo recoil and servo elevation. It also supposedly comes with the newer 3.0 system .

Not worth the extra $130 IMO.

The most disappointing feature of the TDX2 radio is its short range. Even the HL TK-6.0S has twice the range. I wonder how the TDX3 compares to the TK-7.1?

If the TDX3 is equal to or superior to the HL TK-7.1, it is plausible to consider the professional plus upgrade from professional, but not at $130 additional.

I repainted mine and switch to plastic track so not worth extra 130. Dai

Individual repainting is invaluable and you have wonderful skill painting. The plastic track is a big step backward from the electroplated metal track. What is your opinion on the metal track vs. plastic track on the M60? I agree with Rubicon99 that you need to upgrade the OEM 380 motor to 390 motor. The torque of these small motor is directly proportional to its running rpm. Running at 25000rpm, the 390 motor is a much better match to the M60 with metal track.

Did you do anything about the servo recoil and radio system upgrade? Agree with you and Rubicon99 that it is NOT worth $130

I did not know it has recoil and radio upgrade. In that case may be it is worth it. I spoke to Rich Johnson on TD's recoil unit and may customers complained of poor quality. Dai

I have a repeat customer that that has a couple M60s and other tanks and just got this new professional plus edition. He told me the aluminum servo recoil unit did not work very well and binds and jams. So he replaced it with one of my recoils he had bought for his tiger and ordered more plastic track and details for it.

Most of us have discovered that the M60 series run much better with plasitc track in dirt and just about everywhere. Even when I do drive through my grass,
I feel the metal track bigs the tank down a lot and also sucks the battery power down fast. Not to mention i absolutely hate when track is supposed to black and it’s metal. My Sherman’s have the problem and you just keep painting the track and it wears off. I much prefer using plastic track.

Just look at the TD recoil unit and looks cheap like soft white metal. Dai

In the RC tank circle, you do not paint the metal tracks. You electroplate them black. Use scrap metal pieces to learn how to control the plating time. The RC tank use relative soft alloy. Usually, 15-20 seconds is enough.

The problem is not the parts that are supposed to be metal it's the parts that are supposed to be black rubber. No matter what is used it wears off and your black rubber pad becomes silver. This just ruins the look of the tracks having silver rubber pads.

So this is wear the black plastic excels. The "rust" paints wears off the areas that are supposed to be black rubber pads leaving the black plastic showing and mostly stays in the nooks and crannies like on tanks with all metal tracks but the end result is an overall more realistic looking track appearance when compared to the all metal tracks.

Now when it comes to tracks with no rubber pads then absolutely the "rust" weathered metal tracks are the way to go appearance wise.

The rubber pads is a standard on full size battle tanks since 1974. For 1/16 scale RC tank, I like the Tamiya hybrid track the best. Torro and Mato metal tracks with solid link pieces and fully closed pin are very good too. For 1/16 scale RC tank, the rubber pad falls off too often to be practical.

The plastic track on Tongde M60 does not work well for me probably because I use plastic road wheel on it making the total package weight too light for the M60. I put the Tamiya track on TD M60 to the back burner for now because the M60 runs so well with TD metal track and 390 motor. I may come back to it for the true to scale look track in the future.

Rubber pads ripping off 1/16 scale tracks is a Mato brand track issue mostly and typically their Leopard 2 track not so much their Abrams tracks. It is super easy to remedy though with some automotive black RTV adhesive. I haven't lost a rubber pad in years now, but then I stopped running Mato Leopard 2 tracks with rubber pads a few year back. Why use them when Tamiya Leopard 2 tracks are superior and cost about the same. It's a very very very rare day if ever to see a Tamiya Leopard or Tamiya Abrams track loss a rubber pad.

I think this needs to be qualified...for the US it is a standard and most NATO tanks. Communist block countries and a lot of other tanks use straight metal tracks. There are probably a bunch of reasons NATO tanks use rubber pads. Firstly, they are less damaging to roads as NATO does exercises in multiple countries. Secondly, they are quieter than straight metal track. Thirdly, they are lighter by size than steel track. As a downside they require more maintenance and degrade faster than all steel track, but most NATO tanks don't have an autoloader. That extra guy can help with maintenance.

Can the TD Professional plus be fitted with the BB Shooter?
