  • DKLMRC M60 A2 STARSHIP TURRET/CHASSIS KIT

    Hi all,

I just got these today from DKLMRC M60A2 Starship turret /chassis kits to be fiited into the TD M60A3 hull. The website says the kit comes with assembly pictures but nowhere to be found. Perhaps it was shipping oversight? Note the crewman does not come with the kit as pictured. Dai

I did warn you there were no instructions included. Still you should be able to manage the build by just looking at photos of A2 turrets combined with your years of model build experience.

Those of us here that have built them can help you were we can too.

      Pretty much what I got.
What does the recoil unit look like?
Did Carson change the mount for the servo?
If he didnt I strongly suggest you make the modification I did so that you can replace the recoil servo when it burns out, because it absolutely will. I guarantee it.

I figure I will just post this again since its more relevant here in this thread.
You remove the pivot screws that hold the main gun in place in the turret. Take the whole apparatus out in your hand and set the turret aside.
Then remove the screws from the top of the servo that hold it in place to the recoil.
Then you get thick styrene blocs and fit them above the servo to the side of the recoil so that they sandwich the servo tabs in place. Glue then in with CA or super glue after sanding the styrene blocks and the spots on the recoil where they will glue.
Once dry, put the servo in place and drill from the bottom up through the mounts on the bottom through the servo tabs and into the new blocks you installed. Install some long screws in place. I think I used spare ones that come with my recoil servo, I dont recall. But long screws to go all the way up.

Now what color are you going to paint it?
They were delivered to the US Army beginning in 1972 and I think they were delivered in Olive drab but were quickly painted to forest green (AK makes a perfect color) and then painted into Merdec Cammo.

I think it would pretty cool in just plain Forest green but I am doing mine in Merdec Verdant Winter, just like my other M60a3 tanks. For some reason I like to torture myself with painting.

Here are some cool options since I think you are in a desert. How are your painting skills.

I will take detailed photos of the turret so you all can see what I got. Dai

After mailing out your order I realized you are not in the desert lol. I guess that was a different customer that I was thinking of that is in the desert.
I can post the green area cammo schemes for you if you want to see them.

I've been working on my A2 and have some more tips for you to my improve assembly.

First, Rubicon warned me not to glue my rear stowage baskets in place until the turret is painted and you have installed the canvas gun mantlet cover. Also be warned me to get a tiny drill and drill the screw holes in the mantlet cover deeper.

Next I found the turret drags badly on the hull when it rotates. I used laquer thinner to remove the paint on the hull in the spots I point out and then sanded them with fine 360 or 400 grit sand paper.

I also sanded the bottom of the turret with fine grit sand paper to smooth the printed surface down and make the turret rotate smoothly. Click image for larger version

To clarify I advised not to glue the turret baskets on until after you have installed the mantlet cover.

After that it's safe to install them. Moving forward afterwards whatever sequence the builder prefers with installation and painting he/she can decide on.
