I will suggest you to start with a reliable brand, midrange quality RTR tank. Keep it for a while to practice your driving skill before moving to the high end. A Tamiya full function Abrams can easily cost up to $2000.

Realistically the Henglong Abrams is an excellent tank. The draw back is tracks. If you have the money to spend for Tamiya Abrams tracks and put them on a henglong you will have a superb rc tank.
the Tamiya Abrams is about 1200 on eBay but it’s suspension is very stiff, it needs the giant speaker removed and a smaller one installed and a lot of weight added.
but the henglong is really better running.

Do yourself a favors a simply by a "Pro" edition HengLong Abrams from Motionrc. It is durable and reliable enough. From there you can learn how to make improvements and modifications to enhance your tanking experience.

The HengLong Abrams has nearly endless upgrade options for looks and improved drive performance.
