  • Metal road wheel compatibility for HL T-34

Sorry if this has been covered, I couldn't find the answer when searching.

Considering upgrading the plastic road wheels on my HL T-34 professional edition. I dont plan to replace the HL metal tracks, idler, or drive sprocket at this time due to budget reasons.

Seems there are options from Torro, Taigen, and Mato. From what I've learned already, the Torro wheels require also installing their suspension arms to work on the HL. Are there any compatibility or fit issues I should be aware of with the other brands? Pros and cons of each?

Last question, has anyone installed a bushing sleeve or bearings in the stock HL plastic wheels, and if so can you share a link to a how-to or write up of it?

    Many thanks

This is my personal experience on the Heng Long T-34/85 metal upgrade. It may or may not suit your taste.
My latest T-34/85 metal upgrade: Mato metal road wheel set Of the 2 Russian T-34/85 metal road wheel set on the market, I prefer this Mato one based on past experience. The cast is crisp and well defined. It comes with rubber tires making it easy to remove for painting the wheels. Each wheel comes with 2 ball bearings of 5mm

Thanks for the link. So the Mato wheels come with the sleeve to make up the difference between the O.D. of the heng long arms and the ID of the mato bearings?

Yes, the Mato wheels come with the copper sleeve to make up the difference between the O.D. of the heng long arms and the ID of the mato bearings. It works ok.

On the Merkava and the Leo 2A6, I used sticky back copper foil for that purpose. They are not as good as the Mato metal sleeves.

Stick with the HL metal T34 wheels they are pretty good and you will have no fitment issues.

I wouldn't personally try to retrofit any Taigen/Torro running gear on a HL T34.
