  • Have you experienced any kind of reliability issue with the Heng Long TK-7.1 main board?

For the past 2 weeks, I test fit the Torro upper chassis to the lower metal chassis. Attach small parts to the upper chassis and tried to find way to improve the wobbling suspension arms. I had a major set back on Sunday. The HL TK-7.1 MFU stoped working. It refused to come online.

This is the second failed HL TK-7.1 MFU in 7 months. The first HL TK-7.1 MFU lasted only a few days. I don't remember any HL MFU failure until the 7.1. I am reluctant to buy another 7.1 MFU for its reliability issue. Returning to 7.0 means giving up on servo recoil and servo elevation. Your comment will be greatly appreciated.

The 7.1 is twice as expensive as the 7.0. It has a very nice metal case while the 7.0 case is plastic. If you are a HL TK-7.1 MFU, how long have you had it?

In the past 24 hours, my question on the TK7.1 received a few reads, but no response. The implication is that very few user experienced multiple failures of the 7.1 MFU.

I have at least a dozen in active service. The only issues I have are with low quality speakers in some tank and sound intermittently cutting out.

One thing about the 7.1 is it likes a constant even power curve coming from the battery. If there is too much fluctuations it will shut down to save the system and battery as it thinks it is seeing a problem with a LiPo or Li Ion. The shut down is seen more with NiMH batteries in the 8.4v range not so much in the 7.2 or 9.6 range. Yes I know you don't run NiMH but they do prove the built in safety works.

I echo R's post. I too have over a dozen in service with no failures. I've lost some 6.0's over the years, but that's it.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Rubicon99 , SoCalBobS , appreciate your input. Using good quality Lithium Ion cells, the battery pack has longer shelf life and much longer constant output voltage. I use a SkyRC MIN6 charger and limit the full charge to 8.2 volts. The newer HL MFU (TK6 and 7) has a 6 volts cutoff which is very useful to Lithium battery health.

I don't really have issues with my 7.1 equipped tanks either. There are no errors to be had from a "software" version and any issues I could experience are gonna be from wear from the external components (like motor brushes and crap like that). I've even recommended it to friends who drive heavy bodied tanks and 1/6 scale because they kept frying lesser boards and now they have not had any issues.

I may have to try a HL board with some external ESCs once my supply of TCBs runs dry, but that might take a while as I think I have 6 of them now.

Thank you for all the feedbacks. I will get another HL TK7.1 MFU for the hybrid Torro/HL Leopard2A6. I am talking to Toucan Hobby about buying an extended warranty like those offered at ebay. Not sure if Toucan will have it or not. If not, I will get the MFU with extended warranty on ebay.
