New to tanks! Purchased heng long 1/16 abrams. There are no screws holding upper and lower parts together. Hole where connecting screws should be it appears to be riveted. Is that the case?
are schematics available
There is a new version of the Abrams where the screws are accessed from the top. It also has torsion bars like the Merkava. The battery cover comes off the front and there are screws in that area. There are also two hatches on the back that are supposed to open to allow access to the screws in the back.

It sounds like time for me to get an 1/16 scale RC Abrams. I like the HL Merkava design a lot. It is what a medium scale RC tank should be.
I have several older 1/24 scale RC Abrams and high end diecast. The smaller scale RC lacks the drive quality of the 1/16 RC tanks.
tank_me , do you have a link to the seller of the torsion bar Abrams?

Can you provide a link to the Abrams RC you purchased? Thank you in advance.
From what I've seen, metal bars like the Merkava in a plastic hull. The only metal hull with metal torsion bars for the Abrams that I know of is the Heng Long metal chassis which is over $600 shipped right now.

Heng Long metal chassis are always much more expensive than Mato or Torro metal chassis. I do not consider metal chassis to be essential. The HL Merkava plastic chassis is the cost effective approach and more than sufficient.
I have not been able to find this plastic torsion bar Abrams anywhere. I wonder if Russell F is located in Europe.

Anyone has information on availability of this plastic torsion bar Abrams in the US? We are running out of time to order it tarriff free.
On the MotionRC.com website, one of the recent US buyer mentioned that he received a torsion bar version Abrams. But the MotionRC product description makes no mention of the suspension system. Anyone knows why?
1/16 Scale M1A2 Abrams Battle Tank Upgrade Edition by Heng Long - RTR - HLG3918-001 One of the world's most effective combat systems for nearly 40 years and counting, the M1 Abrams is recognized around the world as the "tip of the spear" for America's mechanized infantry. Probably they just haven't updated it. Many times a manufacturer has made updates to a product and Motion (specifically Motion) isn't aware until someone lets them know. A good thing is to let Aros, on here know and he'll fix it.
Also sometimes they cut and paste info from one version to another or even one product to another product and don't kame all the corrections.
I just got emails from Derek Mares at MotionRC. He said that all their current stock of Heng Long Abrams are V2 torsion bar version. Just disregard their product description.

I wonder though, based on their previous versions, even the pro models, how tight and smooth it will be, love my Tongde, tried to find a pro version M1A2 SEP with no luck so I just blew a chunk on a truck to start the season instead.

Heng Long use thicker plastic on their tank chassis making it sturdier, but the fit and Torrence of their road wheel and suspension are terrible.
I did not get more Tongde RC tank after the M60A1 because Tongde make their tank components off scale and incompatible with Heng Long, Mato and Taigen/Torro on purpose. On the M60A1, Tongde have the best aligned and smoothest tank when compared to the other HL's I have. I have no information on how good the other Tongde tanks are.
I'm blessed with a lack of knowledge in regards to scale accuracy for the most part, mostly I like to build them and beat the crepe out of them, my M60 with bearings installed is the bar as far as I'm concerned in terms of drive line performance.

You are going to have a hard time finding a "large" tank that runs as well as the "metal" edition M60 especially if you swapped in a better electronic control system. The M60 is definitely a "bar setter".
