  • Slow turret motor

Hi, does anyone know where I can purchase a faster turret motor?

I have a Heng Long Abrams with the 7.0 MFU. The stock turret rotation motor is painfully slow. I purchased a 7.0 Leopard 2 for my son and the turret rotation motor is significantly faster.

Later, I tried out the CS metal rotation motor from DKLMRC, which is a nice improvement over the stock motor, but still nowhere near as fast or smooth as my son's Leopard 2's stock motor. Does anyone know where I can purchase another stock turret rotation motor like in the Leopard 2?

I've attached a video for comparison between the two stock motors.

    Thanks!

The turret rotation on the HL Abrams is very close to real time rotation of a acual Abrams tank.
The turret rotation on the Leopard is WAY too fast in comparision to a real Leopard tank.
If you are looking to have your tanks have operation as close as possible to the real thing, you need to slow down the HL Leopard turret rotation IMHO.

Oh I see, thank you for the information! I don't know too much about real tanks. Unfortunately, I can't really slow his down since it seems like I can't change the speed on the stock 7.0 mfu. I've tried the commands printed on the manual and it doesn't really seem to do anything. Also if I did he'd be upset, he like being able to one-up me when we do IR being able to quickly swing his turret around haha.

You replace the rotation unit in either tank to match the other.

There are two faster rotation units for modern tanks. The gray one that comes in the Merkava is faster and much quieter. You may be able to find it for a better price than that, but with all the tariff stuff, who knows.

Then there is a different one that is metal that I have on my Abrams as the other one wasn't around when I bought it. It is a metal unit where the drive motor hangs down from the gearbox, but I haven't really seen them for sale in a while so I don't even know if they make them anymore.

To slow down the Leopard turret you can add a resistor spliced into the power wire to the turret motor. Maybe someone can chime in on a resistor size to try or splice a potentiometer in to vary the turning speed of the turret motor.

It says in the instruction sheet how to adjust the speed of the turret on the controller. I tried mine and nothing changed either.

The translation from Chinese to English is a little off. What it actually does is reduce the sensitivity of the stick inputs. Meaning the more input you use the quicker it reaches its top turning speed. This allows for greater low speed control over the turret.

This is most evident when you use one of the newer super fast "gray" rotating units.

Yup, that is what I'm looking for. The one from the leopard to put into the abrams would be cool.

Thank you for the link! That grey rotation unit is exactly what my son's leopard has in it. But you're right, with tariffs, it may not be worth it at the time being.

If I did that, my son would definitely notice and might not be too happy, haha. But thanks for the idea!

Yea, I noticed that it did nothing on the 7.0, once I changed to the 7.1 on the abrams, it seems to have made some difference. Of course, the video was taken before the 7.1 was installed and it's still significantly slower even at full speed.

Ok, that makes more sense. I'll try it on my son's leopard. Of course, he may not like the result haha.
