  • DIY Tank/Robot - core electronic/motor parts

    Hi all!

I have a project I've been asked to assist with - Basically building a large Lego 'robot' for a presentation. It will be up to a meter tall, and probably weigh 5-10kg. The frame/Skin will be all Lego parts

I'm very familiar with Lego RC products/motors, however I don't think they will be strong, fast , or reliable enough for this project.

I'm capable enough to design the mechanics, and RC -> Lego connections.

The design will have tank treads, and basic controlled arms (raise/lower), and rotating head.

What I'm looking for is a DIY RC Tank kit that includes:
    • RC Controller
    • Receiver/Speed/Motor Controller
    • 2 Drive Motors
    • 2-3 secondary motors (arms/head)
    • easy to remove/recharge battery pack

Are there any 'ready to go' kits from online hobby shops/aliexpress etc?

Ultimately I need something that the owners of this build can just switch on, and start driving

Also, if there are any other subreddits/forums that might be helpful to ask in, please let me know!

    thanks for any help!

I don't know of any DIY product that does all you require, but a few years back HiTec offered Arduino controlled servo operated robots. Also, eBay and other online sites used to offer robot tank chassis kits by SZDOIT. This one I assembled with one of their chassis using Heng Long tank electronics to control tread operation and camera rotation. Too small for your ideas, but food for thought at least.

The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!
