  • Help with Heng Long Tiger Connections

Helping a friend with a Heng Long 1/16 scale 2.4ghz German King Tiger.

Can someone please show the receiver & daughterboard connections and where they go? Can't figure out where the turret cannon is supposed to connect.

Same request for the RX, though I think we've got those.

The rx has these connections & labels, but... They don't all make sense.
    CN1 - BAT. 2 pins. Battery ✔️
    CN2 - IR PORT. 5 pins. ??
    CN3 - M.G. FIRE. 5 pins ??
CN4 - SP. 2 pins. Speaker ✔️ but no sound
    CN5 - M. L. 2 pins. Motor left ✔️
    CN6 - M.R. 2 pins. Motor right ✔️
    CN7 - SM. 2 pins. Smoke ✔️
CN8 - LIFT, TURN, SHOOT, LAMP. 8 pins. To daughterboard ✔️
    CN9 - ST. 2 pins. ??
    CN10 - BL. 2 pins. ??

The daughtboard has 5 connectors; 8 pin to the RX, and 4 other small connectors. As in pic 4, long connector on top, it seems these are, L to R: Lamp, Shoot, Turn, Lift. Yes?

    Pix:
    1 - the box
2 - cannon & connector. The green circle is the connector for the cannon and where it's connected to the cannon. Where does this dang thing plug in?? The blue circle is the daughterboard
    3 - the RX.
    4 - the daughterboard

What you have there is a Heng Long 5.3 MFU (Multi-Function Board). You might want to start from the beginning as in, what is the original issue with this tank? Are you replacing a bad board or trying to upgrade/replace something? The box normally says what version of the MFU came with it. Was this originally a 5.3 tank?

I'm guessing that the no sound issue is related to the transmitter and MFU not being bound together. I'm going to assume, you turn the tank on and the lights flash, but when you try to turn it on nothing happens and the lights just flash? If so, the transmitter is not bound. If they go solid when the tank is turned on then it could be that the volume is turned all the way down or the speaker is bad or the MFU sound port is bad. A pic of the transmitter type might be helpful as there were two types of transmitters for the 5.3. One of them looks like the one I posted at the bottom and the other looks really similar to the one they use for the 6.x/7.x boards. Problem is, none of those transmitters are compatible with each other. There were two 5.3 boards, one with only a single sound set (transmitter I have added to this thread) and the newer one with two sound sets programmed in it (not shown).

CN2 is an Infrared battle port. There would be a 5 pin connector coming from the turret if this was an IR version of the HL tank. Back in the day you had the choice of IR -OR- BB function - not both. The newer 6.x/7.x boards have BOTH BB and IR built in. Seeing that you have a BB unit in the turret, there would be nothing connected in this port.

CN3 is for the BB recoil switch. Only two pins are used as shown in the wiring diagram below.

CN9 is the binding port. The little switch is used to bind the transmitter to the MFU.

CN10 - not used. It's a hold over hole from the (even older) RX18 MFU. It's where the old RX18 FM frequency module plugged in, but has been replaced by the antenna of the newer 2.4Ghz system in this MFU.

    From Pics:

#2 That connectory probably goes to CN3. Trace the wires - if they go up to the turret to what looks like a switch, it would be the BB trigger switch. If it doesn't go to the turret, I would need to know where it goes.

@mhartboca , if you plan on driving your Heng Long 1/16 scale 2.4ghz German King Tiger for more than a few weeks, I strongly recommend you to upgrade the whole radio set to a later version.

Even if you can successfully bind the TK-5.3 transmitter and receiver, the upgrade will give you a much better driving experience. Heng Long implemented proportional ECS in their later generation MFU. It makes a huge difference in the tank's driving quality. A metal drive chain upgrade is also highly desireable if you plan to take the tank outdoor on rough tarrain.

        Hi,
Thanks so much for the information!

The only thing I want to aiis that the OLD RX was marked 5.3s on the back of the PCB, and the NEW one was marked 5.3.

I'm guessing the s indicates ?sound?.
