Taigen Panzer IV: Issue with right track

I have a brand new ( as in arrived this past Monday ), Taigen Panzer IV " winter edition " that has a problem I can't figure out how to fix.

When I put the tank on solid ground ( such as a hardwood floor ) and move the right joystick to the " forward left " or " backward left " position, neither the right track nor the gears on the right side move.


If I elevate the tank on a platform so that the treads are not touching the floor and I put the right joystick into the " forward left " or " backward left " position, both the right track as well as the gears on the right move.

Everything else ( forward/reverse/right spin/left spin and forward right ) seems to function as it should.

Anyone have any idea what the issue could be ? I reached out to Taigen support on this but it's been 4 days and I've heard nothing from them.

First, I would make sure you have a fully charged battery and/or a known good one. If you take the motor connections and switch them, does the problem switch to the other track? If it does, it's the electronics. If it doesn't then it's something mechanical in the non-working side.

whats the easiest way to get those connectors out of the sockets in the board ? I am sure there is a better way of doing it than what I've been doing, which is basically using tweezers to pull them up...

If they are really stuck you can use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry them out a bit. Or a needle nose pliers if you can get them on the connector.

Ok, this morning I switched the motor connections around and ended up creating more problems lol...for some reason it kept throwing the track on the other side. It took some time to figure that out but I think it was because one of the metal spring clamps that holds the leaf spring assembly together for one of the road wheels had come off. I had found that part laying on my floor the other day and couldn't figure out where it came from but now I know.

In any case, with the motor connections swapped around, the issue switched to the left track...with the joystick in the backward turn right or forward turn right position it is now the LEFT track that does not move when the tank is on the floor and unsupported.

When supported on a block of wood, it will turn and the gears will turn, but what I have discovered is that when the tank is supported and not in contact with the floor, in those forward/backwards-left/right positions both tracks are moving, one at a higher rate of speed than the other. When I perform this same test on a different Taigen tank I have that I know to be functional, only one track moves which is what is supposed to happen.

So it seems like it's an electronics issue.

Perhaps Taigen will just end up sending me a replacement board.
