  • Heng Long Decals

I'm currently building a Heng Long Russian KV-1 and I slipped up a bit applying the included decals to the turret which I now need to remove. I would like to throw it out there to the group... What would be the best way to remove the decal without ruining the surface or the paint that came on the tank? Other than decals, I haven't done anything to it. Sorry, I'm new to this. I would appreciate any input. Thanks...

I am sure someone has a better idea than I do. I made that mistake and ended up scraping them off with my fingernails. Hahaha!!

Those dry transfer decals are early impossible to remove without affecting the surface underneath. As a general rule, I repaint my tanks so if I need to make a change, a retouch is easier. In your case, you could take the decal off, gently sand any imperfections, then paint over it. Unfortunately, there aren’t any exact paint matches with the original paint, hence the need for an overall repaint.

You could try something like Goo Gone, but I don’t know if it works on the vinyl decals.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Thank you for your reply but I think Goo Gone would most likely melt the plastic underneath.

Have you tried a hair dryer to warm up the decal? I haven't tried, but could be worth a try.

That could possibly work and then lightly remove the residual with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip.

I've used it on Heng Long plastic without a problem, but of course try it on a test piece first.
