    Washes and weathering

    Hello,
I’m fairly new to the RC world, coming over from building 1:35 scale models, and I had a few questions about weathering.

I have a 1:16 Heng Long Sherman 105mm, and I’d like to add a black wash to bring out the details and give it a more weathered appearance. Obviously, I’ll be careful not to let any wash run through the engine grilles and onto the electronics, but are there any other things I should watch out for?

Would a thin wash made with water and acrylic paint work, or would it be better to use enamel paint?

Any other weathering tips? I’m thinking about using a small piece of torn sponge dipped in dark gray paint to create chipped paint on the exposed edges and corners. I’d like to add some mud weathering to the tires as well, although I suppose running the tank outdoors will naturally take care of some of that!
