The purpose of this thread is to offer our customers an even closer look at the people that make up Motion RC. Trust is of immeasurable importance to us and we think the more you get to know us as people, the more you can trust who we are as individuals and in turn, the company as a whole. The simple fact is, we all have a passion for the RC aircraft hobby and are likely as active and immersed as you all are. We've experienced the highs and lows as the advancements in RC electric flight has evolved tremendously over the past several years. We don't simply push product we don't stand behind. Rest assured if the majority of RC pilots feel strongly about an issue, whether it's something as important as quality control down to desired scale details, we're right with you.
Our staff have been given a series of questions to answer. I will start the thread off with various staff members adding their responses in the coming days/weeks...Feel free to answer these questions and add to the thread as well!
Here's a bit about me. My name is Todd Bréda (the fancy hyphen over the "e" is to help people pronounce my last name correctly which is "Bray-duh") and most know me online as "Aros". I started out in the hobby back in the late 1990's. My passion for aviation has always been with me since I was a little boy. Like many boys my age, I had several WWII warbird models hanging from the ceiling in my room. Even that young I thought there was little else in this world quite as cool as a WWII warbird.
These days I find myself working for a company that shares the same passion I do for RC electric flight. I get to do things I really enjoy such as manage our website content, publishing all of our product as well as design our print and web advertising. Or as Wayne, my co-worker and excellent customer support team member calls me, "Pixel Pusher". Hey that works! Speaking of working, I work remotely from Maple Valley, Washington. Home of the beautiful Pacific Northwest surrounded by mountains, ocean, evergreen trees and with all of its challenges such as finding large, flat, unobstructed places to fly. Well we can't have it all. Now on to the questions...
How long have you been flying RC?
I've been flying since the late 1990's.
What type of aircraft have you flown?
I have flown sailplanes, warbirds, EDF jets, biplanes, civil, micros, 3D...Pretty much anything fixed wing. The only thing I have yet to fly are turbines. Hopefully someday.
What is currently in your hangar?
FMS 1500mm P-47D Razorback, LX 64mm SR-71 Blackbird, E-flite Timber BNF, RocHobby NXT Nemesis, HSD 105mm F-16 Falcon, Phoenix F4U Corsair, FlightLineRC P-38L Lightning, FMS 1400mm Stuka, Fly Fly ASW 28, Volantex ASW 28, E-flite UMX A-10, E-flite UMX Cessna Skylane.
What is your favorite aircraft you've flown?
Man that's tough as I've had a lot of favorites through the years but for the crowd pleasing wow factor and sheer enjoyment I have to go with the Freewing 90mm F/A-18 Hornet painted in the Blue Angel scheme. Notable mentions the FMS 1400mm Pitts painted in the red Oracle scheme. What a blast that bird is and the SR-71 Blackbird for the pucker factor alone. The Top Flite Gold Edition Cessna 182 was a beautiful scale flyer. The Legend Models P-38 was a rock-solid performer as well.
What's the largest RC aircraft you've flown?
A Hangar 9 1:4 scale Piper Cub with a 108" wing. My other large models have been the Top Flite Gold Edition Cessna 182 Skylane, Legend Models P-38 Lightning and RC Aerodyne Baron G58. All wingspans in the 80+" range.
What's the smallest RC aircraft you've flown?
Any of the E-flite UMX offerings.
Ever flown a full scale airplane?
Yes. Cessna 172, 8 hours logged VFR as a student pilot. Life got in the way so I had to take a leave of absence. Now my RC airplane hobby is sucking all of my disposable income.
Where's your favorite place to fly?
There's a Junior High School where I fly at primarily because it is not far from my house plus it allows me the ability to fly the medium to large sized EDF jets and warbirds. My club field has nice views but unfortunately not a large and smooth enough runway for my jets and large scale aircraft. My newest favorite place to fly I recently discovered...An 1,800 square foot unobstructed smooth parking lot at a concert venue just 12 miles from my house! Large enough to fly any giant scale stuff and my new HSD 105mm F-16!
If you could have any RC aircraft what would it be?
CARF Folding Wing F4U Corsair with Moki Radial! After that it would have to be a Ziroli or Yellow Aircraft P-38 Lightning...And a super scale Concorde, B1 and SR-71 EDF!!
What's the worst crash you ever had?
Geez that's a long list. Probably when I hit a chain link fence with my SR-71 Blackbird at full power. The sound and carnage was pretty damn spectacular.
What's one maneuver you haven't been able to master yet?
The Rolling Harrier! I just can't get it no matter how many hours of practicing I put in. Drives me crazy! Such a cool-looking maneuver...Just can't seem to get the muscle memory down.
If you could offer a beginner one piece of advice what would it be?
Invest in a good RC simulator and spend hours and hours learning how to successfully takeoff, fly and land various aircraft. It pays off and will translate to the real thing. Find and join a local AMA club and absorb as much knowledge you can from experienced pilots. Having an experienced pilot Buddy Box with you is a terrific way to learn as well.
