Does anyone know what type of potentiometers are being used on the DIY chairs. One chair is titled Mikeys RC Real Aircraft Simulator.

Most feedback (position indicators) pots are 5K ohms

      Welcome to the forum Skip!
Sorry it took so long, chalk it up to Christmas. Nevertheless we're glad to have you here. Let us know how your chairs are going. Can't recall anyone else here doing something like that so it would be very interesting to hear your results!

Hi Skip, welcome to Hobbysquawk! I don't have much experience with sim chairs except for a few missions on a friend's War Thunder DIY rig. I'm not sure what he used. But I do have a fair amount of experience in electrical components in general, as one might expect.

Googling MikeyRC's chair setup, he also talks about linear variable differential transformers, or LVDTs. From a tinker's standpoint, these are fairly straightforward to create, and can, based on your precision in construction, yield excellent electrical linearity. In terms of sensitivity and threshold, if I were to build a sim chair I would look into these devices as alternatives.
