Hobby Squawk Code of Conduct
(Updated May 10th, 2017)
Hobby Squawk is an RC aircraft-specific forum that was developed by Motion RC as a way to offer a friendly, inviting atmosphere for RC flyers to discuss, share information and commune with others regarding the hobby of remote control electric flight.
The following are the rules, regulations and Code of Conduct we expect each of our members to abide by. By doing so, this keeps Hobby Squawk a fun, informative, friendly atmosphere for anyone who shares in the passion for RC electric flying.
POLITICS AND RELIGION
We do not allow Politics and Religion on Hobby Squawk as these topics have proven to be matches and dynamite. Threads with these topics can get heated in a nano-second, so it's best to take those types of discussions offline.
The exception in regards to politics would be anything that is in direct relation to the model being discussed (such as the military movement and use of the A-10 in the Official A-10 thread as an example). Discussion about the military's movement and involvement with the aircraft discussed is okay, but any political discussion, labeling ("Right wingers" "liberals" left wingers" etc) propaganda, is prohibited.
Example:
What's okay: "Did you see the A-10s are active in that region? They are giving ISIS a very bad day!"
What's not okay: "Good ol' Trump and the left/right wingers are having their way...etc, etc..."
POSTING IMAGES
Hobby Squawk encourages members to share their RC aircraft-related imagery. Due to the various off-topic and general forums, there will be instances were non-RC-related imagery is shared. Under NO circumstances are the following imagery allowed on Hobby Squawk:
Pornography. The ONLY exception where nudity is allowed on Hobby Squawk – of any kind – is images that depict authentic nose art from real full scale military aircraft that actually flew missions/sorties during wartime (WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, etc).
Some of this nose art may display a woman’s breasts and buttocks. Usually this is displayed in an innocuous manner and is not considered graphic pornography. If you are unclear if your image you wish to share is appropriate to share, please send a message to a moderator or administrator for clarification before posting the image.
The gratuitous sharing of this type of imagery is NOT allowed. In other words, if it is to show simply due to the nudity factor alone it will be removed and you will be warned by a moderator. The image must be relevant to the topic of conversation (such as displaying nose art of a warbird for clarification or help in deciding on a livery choice as example).
Offensive/Violent/Religious and/or Politically-Charged Imagery. ANY images that could be offensive to others – regardless of topic – are not allowed. Again, if you have any question or concern regarding an image on Hobby Squawk please contact a moderator or administrator.
SPAM/FREE ADVERTISING
Spamming (where someone posts the same message in multiple threads) is prohibited. Posting a link offering services or product unrelated to the RC aircraft hobby is prohibited. If you have or know of a business that may not be directly related to RC electric aircraft however you feel it could be beneficial to the community, please contact a moderator or administrator so they can ascertain if the link would be allowable and appropriate.
TROLLING
Trolling is defined as: To make a deliberately offensive or provocative online posting with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them. Trolling for ANY reason is prohibited. Often times a troll is someone who recently registered, is not engaged as a known member of the community, whose majority of posts are to shock or incite or anger. Trolls are looked at by Hobby Squawk staff as hostile and will be banned immediately and permanently with no second chances.
Hobby Squawk has a ZERO tolerance for trolling.
PROFANITY
Hobby Squawk is a “PG-13” category forum. Simply put, this means the occasional lighter profanity such as Bullsh*t, b@stard, @ss, sh*t, godd@mn can be used but like photos of nose art showing nudity, it cannot be used gratuitously and should be done very sparingly. If members are offended and ask you to stop you must honor their request immediately or risk a warning.
“Hard core” profanity such as “F Bombs” and similar vulgarity is NOT allowed.
Good rule of thumb: If you cannot say it on standard cable TV shows, you cannot write it in Hobby Squawk.
Any questions regarding the use of profanity on Hobby Squawk please contact a moderator.
COPYRIGHTED OR TRADEMARKED MATERIAL
It is illegal to post any content that is copyrighted or trademarked, unless you hold the copyright or trademark. Any material protected by copyright may not be posted on Hobby Squawk without the expressed permission of the author or owner of the copyright on that material. This includes reproducing the full text of news stories, articles, etc. It is acceptable to provide a link to copyrighted material, to post brief excerpts, or to paraphrase other works, though we do strongly encourage you to cite the original source whenever possible.
PIRACY OR UNLAWFUL ACTIVITIES
Hobby Squawk is a place for ideas and constructive participation, and not a place to violate any laws or to discuss illegal activities. This type of activity includes, but is not limited to, advocating or asking for information regarding software piracy or unauthorized emulators of software or hardware, sharing or distributing viruses, licenses, registration information, software keys, "cracks," or other information designed to do harm to or allow unlawful access to any computer hardware, software, networks, or any other systems. Please refrain from posting this kind of message on Hobby Squawk.
WARNINGS/BANNINGS
Due to the organic nature of an evolving forum community, we look at each punitive situation on a case-by-case basis. For instance a troll will likely be banned upon first infraction. Whereas a known member who was having a bad day and posted content that he or she felt was regrettable upon reflection, a warning would likely be the result.
A non-trolling member will likely receive two warnings – depending on the severity of the action - before a ban is considered. At that point if another infraction occurs it will be determined if a temporary or permanent ban is in order. There are many variables that come into play that determines what course of action we will take (such as tenure, type of infraction, history of issues, etc.) but as a general guideline a member will receive two warnings before a ban.
If the ban is temporary it will be determined at that time the length of the ban. A standard temporary first-time ban is 7 calendar days. Upon returning, it is entirely up to the member if further action, including a permanent ban, is necessary.
Hobby Squawk reserves the right to ban anyone at any time for any reason.
AVATARS/SIGNATURES
Hobby Squawk members may upload an avatar to use as their profile image. Avatars must follow the guidelines found above in POSTING IMAGES. The one difference is that you may NOT use nudity (even if it is nose art) in an avatar. All other rules and guidelines related to imagery applies.
Avatars are 125 pixels wide by 125 pixels tall. The standard file formats for your avatar are .jpg, .png, .gif. You can upload your avatar from your profile settings found at the top right menu of the site.
You may use signatures that are found at the footer of each post. These, like avatars, are setup in your profile settings. Please refer to the POSTING IMAGES guidelines. Please keep signatures short. Anything under 3 sentences is appropriate (including links where applicable).
CLASSIFIEDS
Hobby Squawk offers their members a classifieds forum where members can buy/sell/trade RC aircraft product ONLY. The classifieds forum is NOT to be used for non-RC items. Hobby Squawk and the parent company Motion RC is NOT responsible for ANY of the transactions that take place in this forum. Any and all issues must be dealt with between the buying/selling parties.
We hope this becomes a viable way to buy/sell/trade/barter RC aircraft between Hobby Squawk members. We ask the buyers to list their product and prices responsibly, and we ask the potential buyers to honor the seller's general requests in regards to shipping and costs.
Any disputes related to the classifieds forum must be handled between the seller and the buyer.
ACTIVE DOCUMENT
The Hobby Squawk Code of Conduct is an “active” document and as such can be revised, edited, updated and changed in any way by the Administrators at any time to reflect the growing community at Hobby Squawk. We thank you for respecting our rules and Code of Conduct and hope you enjoy your time spent here. Happy landings!
