I just received the Roc Hobby Waco today from Motion Rc , it took 1 1/2 days.Those guys are amazing! My question is has anyone put Dave Brown's on one and what size? I just don't care for the wheels it came with. Thanks

I didn't like the original wheels either. I swapped mine out with an extra set from my Hobbyzone Supercub. Almost an exact fit. The fairings make it tough. The Supercub wheels are softer like the Dave Brown's. I just had to drill out the axle holes a tiny bit. There is a ton of discussion about this plane on a thread at RCgroups.com. I have only taken mine out for her maiden before winter hit, but it flew great.
I absolutely love the Dubro low bounce wheels. I never use the stock wheels. My planes that are the same size as the Waco have 2 1/2" or 3" low bounce wheels. They work great on grass. Some trimming is usually needed on the fairings. I use a Dremel or a die grinder for this. Have fun! The Doctor
And watch your control throws! Mine went 3d the first flight! Also, she was tail heavy. Had to add weight to the cowling to settle her down.

Thanks Grossman! I'll make sure to keep her in low rate for the maiden. As far as the cg I have found my Great Planes cg machine invaluable for balancing. I'll make sure to check it. Thanks for the tips. You can't beat the forum for people helping each other out. Thanks again.
Ah the nightmare called "getting the CG machine arms through the rigging" Probably easier to take it off. BTW, did you get the stretchy string we've all used for rigging? It's fine elastic thread and works so much better than the stuff they give you. Some of the guys found it at Walmart in the sewing section, I got mine at Amazon. I'll see if I can dig up the thread, should be in "All Us Newbie Pilots....'

I haven't bought it yet going to try a local Michaels Craft Store. If they don't have it I will use the Amazon thread you gave me. I'm currently Minwaxing the plane, looks great so far. That's what I like about this hobby, I haven't even got the plane together and already I'm upgrading the wheels, I've got the external 10a bed to put in and I may change the servo's if their not metal gear servo's. I did notice they have upgraded the esc to 40a from 35a so I won't have to change that,isn't it great to modify brand new stuff ha ha! Thanks again for the advice Grossman.
I was able to stick with the stretchy string supplied with the plane. I just started by tying a knot onto a spring first (not connected to the plane) with a foot long piece of the thread. I pulled the knot REAL tight and put a drop of CA on the knot. I let it dry overnight and then attached the other spring to the plane and pulled the thread through and stretched it and tied another knot with CA. Trimmed the loose ends and all is fine. No problems what-so-ever.
Seems a lot of people have had issues with the supplied thread. I was able to get mine to work so I stuck with it. And yes, I did the CG check BEFORE I didn't he rigging. Much easier.
I was soooooo impressed when this plane lifted off for my maiden last fall. I actually did not have to adjust any trim. It was perfectly flat in flight with the Admiral 2200. My low rates are 40% expo and 60% throw. Worked great for me. I never use the throw numbers in the instructions either. My throws are based on using 100% of the available travel of the aileron/elevator/rudder as the baseline. I then just crank the travel down with my radio to 40/60/80, or whatever I like. I think I have been always starting with 40% expo and 60% throw for almost every plane I own. Rarely do I have to crank the throw DOWN any. Usually I go up in throw as I get more comfortable.
No Problem Boomer! That's good advice too Keith, words to live by. I put mine on a graduated switch so I can start off on minimum, go to switch position 2 and have the throws increased by 10 then position 3 with another 10. In the Waco I believe the top throw setting was 70% (that was on my DX6i with 60% and 70% on a two way switch)
Bills right, she does like to fly. For the fun of it, I put a long piece of ribbon around the rear pilots neck so he has a scarf blowing in the wind, it looks way cool!
By the way, she doesn't like to keep her pants on!! did a mod that I covered in All Us Newbies. and it was semi successful. I combined it with some Elmers Rubber Cement on the upper end of the pants that touches the fuselage. It looks good, just waiting for the weather to clear to try it out
In hind site I neglected to ask Boomer if he ordered the yellow or the red and white.

Hey Rocketeer!
I ordered the yellow one. I started assembly tonight after putting two coats of Minwax, man does she pop! My wife loves so much she wants me to get the red one also,her two favorite colors. Sounds like a bonus to me. Anyway I installed a 10a bec along with my favorite xt-60 connector and I have some Dave Brown's to to put on also. The assembly is easy and everything fits tight but the instructions leave a lot to be desired and wheels pants terrible! I had the same idea as Grossman on how to mount them along with some Welders adhesive, flexible and strong. Which way do you guys find the best way to install the battery? That compartment is tight. Well I will continue the assembly and keep you posted.

One thing about the pants, I trimmed a small amount (like 1/8") off the bottom so there was some room for flex. The clasps on mine just don't want to stay on the gear legs, so I did that little mod and hopefully this will solve the problem. Bill has had great success with his Waco, mine was a challenge and I don't know why mine needs as much weight up front, but thats the way it is. I'd suggest CGing her before putting on the wires. She's a feisty little gal but a lot of fun, plus she looks awesome in the air!!
By the way, what size Dave Browns? I have 3" DBs on my Pandoras and love them

As GMan mentioned, I had no issues or need for additional weight with my Waco.
I simply install the batteries as far forward as they'll go and fly.
Although, when I incorporate the 2200mAh I don't go quite as far forward.
I did however, CG my Waco after I rigged it out.

Don't want to hijack this thread but if I could ask a quick question Grossman? Those 3 inch tires for the Pandora, did you mean as a tail dragger? Or Trike? Just curious.
By the way, Love that Waco. I used to have one I made back in the early 80's with a .60 engine in it. Can't remember what brand it was. Pico maybe? Pica?
The picture thing is a little tricky, I have to go into my photoshop program and resize anything I want to post I resize to approximately 1000 and then save it in a folder called web shots.
Then, when you're posting, go to the bottom of the page and hit browse to find the picture, select it and then hit "Add Attachment" on the left and it will start the process. The picture will either end up showing on the right side, under the "Add Attachment" button or it will tell you that its too big. Assuming that it shows up on the right, you click back on the post to where you want it to show up, then click the "insert into post" button, and there she is, hit the "preview post" button to check it out before you post it.
Hey Flygirl I have those wheels in route to me for my Pandora . I don't think you can use them in the Tric setup . I plan to have for tail dragger for switching between the two styles .

First, I should have said 10 Grams not oz in the nose of the Waco, oops. And yes I have both in low wing tail dragger config. The 3" DB's look great! Now, your CG is going to give you fits! I have both my Pandoras set up this way now and the battery compartment became the ESC compartment as I put in 50A esc's in both. The battery sits underneath the canopy right against the main spar, which is as far back as I can get it without cutting. Now, here's the interesting thing. Two Pandoras set up exactly the same, go to CG them on a Great Planes CG machine. P-2 sits up there as pretty as you please. P-1, however was nose heavy still, so I had to add 7 grams to the tail. A little razor bladingand I managed to recess it into that little flat spot at the rear of the fuselage. I had epoxy/resin it into place, but it worked. The point is, two exactly the same planes (except for paint) two very different CGs. Same with my Waco versus Bill's guess some days they lean on the foam injector more than others!
