I am waiting for HBO's Masters of the Air. It is also going to be a series about the 8th AF done in the same style and quality as Band of Brothers and the Pacific. Personally the CGI in the Mighty 8th looks a bit over the top, and rather unrealistic to me, but I'll reserve judgement for the final movie.

And I see where my confusion came from now. According to this article: http://hbowatch.com/the-mighty-eighth-is-gearing-up/ the footage you posted is just sort of a test reel to pitch the concept to the studio. The final project should be much better and far more realistic.

Masters of the Air has been renamed the Mighty Eighth. Looks great though, I wondered if they'd get into the Airforce and surprise!! Now, if they'd only cover the
Fly Tigers, with these guys at the helm of a project like that.......

That was not a test real but rather a mashup of like 5 different war movies scenes. I researched that reel when it came out and that is what I found. Ok after reading the footage was shot by a amateur band of people and the sounds are from Memphis Belle.

I will say I enjoyed this. The CGI is ok but its watchable.

A lot of the old "Great Planes" and "Wings" Documentaries from Discovery Wings are on YouTube. These are my favorites:

I just finished watching the Sir Douglas "This is your life" on YouTube. It was awesome seeing some the greats from the BOB, especially Galland and Johnson.

No problem! If just want a great series on airplanes in general (not really warbirds), the BBC Century of Flight Series is excellent as well. Unfortunately, there are quite a few parts missing, but it is very well done: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...zyw0el86vb8_oe

I have an affection for WWI aircraft as these guys were flying contraptions that they thought were the greatest thing in the world so Flyboys gets my nod but I have yet to see Hell's Angels by Howard Hughes. Those guys had Stones!!

The Final Countdown. It's technically si fi, but still some good footage of mixing eras. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyjNInIH4Hw

Sorry Aros, don't know how to switch chamnels now...Chain Lightning, 1950, Humphrey Bogart. The beginning has some early jet test pilot action and scenes of B-17's being attacked by what looks like a Komet. On last night on TCM (hate commercials). Not my favorite flick, but how could you not like a warbird movie with a "Bogey" as the lead?
