T-CAT For your first 3D model I will say it looks like you have a future in creating 3D models! Well done my friend! Looks great to me!Originally posted by T-CAT View PostBe gentle with the comments
, the picture below is of the first 3D Model I have ever made. It's decent. I didn't do anything special like figuring out how to taper each side of the pedals, make the pedal shape different on one side versus the other, create detail, etc. because I haven't figured out that part yet.

Okay, thanks Alpha! I'm still messing around with it to see how I can ensure it allows me to design on the surface select. When I select it, the program doesn't automatically snap to the axis view once I select an axis at times. Maybe I have a setting incorrect, but is likely my fault in the procedures.
From an art standpoint, I tend to think in a non-3D way, so I'm adjusting that. Ha-ha

I mentioned this in the stream from earlier this week, but for posterity an EAA membership grants you access to a Solidworks License for personal use. That's $40 a year.

Okay, following the steps, I can create a simple exhaust nozzle rather quickly and easily with a pedaled design. That's the good thing. However, the downside is that the details are still annihilating me, ha-ha. Mine doesn't look a thing like a F-16 nozzle. The abnormalities in shape of the pedal on one side to the other, and the little design details on the pedals and base of the can I haven't figured out yet (depending on which Block you're replicating). I'm working on it.
When I want to design on the pedal I created after revolving, I select the surface, and it still wants to draw on the axis and not the actual pedal surface. It must be something simple that I'm missing.

Such an incredible means to do it! I'm practicing right nowOriginally posted by Alpha View PostT-CAT Hot Keys are the key, T. When you break down what we did, the steps are very basic, so I'm sure you can draw it in that short of a time once you've practiced (and have the measurements ready):
1) Draw cutaway view of nacelle, using your measurements gleaned from references/scale calculation, etc. Draw this in reference to one of the axis lines (X, Y, or Z axis). Draw using R for rectangle, C for circle, and select the Spline tool for curved shapes. As you saw, this takes mere seconds for a tailcone.
2) Select the Revolve tool
3) While holding Control+C, select the Faces you want to revolve.
4) Select "Axis", then click on the center axis around which you drew your cutaway
5) Click "Revolve" to revolve the Faces. Select the amount of degrees you want to revolve that face (360 degrees for a full cone)
6) There is no Step 6, because you're already done.
. I'm really enjoying the 3D modeling. I have a lot to learn, and it's fun, and always look forward to learning more. Thanks again!

I'm still mind blown and impressed when we were in the Live Stream when Alpha was drawing the MiG-29 exhaust nozzles, and he said if he weren't demonstrating then he could draw it in a minute and a half. LOL. If that's true, then wowsers.
That episode was so much. The 3D modeling seems like it opens up an entirely new world for me. It's inspiring and I love anything inspirational.

CM_Aero You're welcome! Hopefully I can help shed a light on this free-to-use software that is at least 75% as capable as the costly software we use to design our full production models at Freewing, Skynetic, etc. For the average hobbyist, Fusion is more than capable of tackling most everyday jobs, and it outputs to Cura seamlessly for 3D printing.
I am going to test another livestream time window this Friday at 8pm EST. Chime in if this does or does not work for you.

That would be awesome! 9pm CEST would be OK, but as a retired Air Traffic Controller I’ve got a lot of time for the hobby. Let’s hear what’s best for other European participants.Originally posted by Alpha View Post
If we hit 50 subscribers, I'll make a second weekly Livestream that fits a European timetable (perhaps 9pm). Let me know a few times in the morning and evening that work best for you.

Unfortunately 2100 EST is 3am over here in Germany and I’m not a night owl. So I have to watch the recordings. I’m using Fusion360 since 2,5 years now (started as total CAD noob) and it’s great to see how a CAD pro works with it. It would be nice if it would be possible to see the menu inputs as well. This is what really helps to learn things. I guess Alpha is working on it.
Will those MiG 29 upgrade files designed during the sessions become available at some point in time? Sorry to ask if this has been already answered...
One more request for another part: How about the prominent gun port on the port side?
Printers here are a Prusa Mk3s and a recently acquired Anycubic Photon S.
