  • RE: All us newbie pilots, lets share..

okay, I have Pandora 2 all rigged up with a more aggressive prop, an 11x9 off the FMS Cessna 182 Sky Trainer.  Now I'm just waiting for a slightly less windy day to try her out. Yes, I have a 50 amp ESC in her as well, so lots of room.  I'll keep you all posted!

So the weather was perfect, I rush home, dreaming of flying off into the Wild Blue.  And there's something going on at the school and the parking lot is jam packed, DANG!!

Anyway, tomorrow's Friday, and I'll have all weekend.
Had a slight mishap with Pandora one, so ordered new landing gear for her, I clipped the top of a fence due to a misjudgment in distance, no damage to the plane, but the inside pant on one of the gears was badly cracked and I didn't have any spares, so. (Yeah, I tried gluing it, but it would have been probably the third time and it just was too tired)  What I DO have a lot of is stock Pandora main gear wheels for a tail dragger config.  I converted both of mine to DB 3" wheels and they're great!

Anyway, for any of you FMS Mustang owners, check out the thread about breaking landing gear, Lauren started it and Sean has come up with a super mod for reinforcing the LG.  I just ordered two sets off him for both of mine, hey beats breaking off a gear and having to call it a day, especially as I'm planning to be five states over when I'm flying mine.

This is a prime example of us all contributing to the whole.  Sean's idea and labor and we all can benefit.  If you get him to make you some, throw in a couple of bucks for his time as well.

Still can't fly here yet. It snowed AGAIN the other night. It is actually suppose to be in the upper 50's next week, so maybe! I braved the cold and did take out the Super Cub last week but it was still to windy even with the gyro on. I was making zero ground speed and traveling sideways. Not fun so I have up. That plane is fun but way too light to fly in any breeze.

Hey Lon, you sound like me!  All set for tomorrow, 8x2200's charged and ready for morning flight.  Burn through them and back home to recharge for the afternoon, then recharge again for evening if I can be that lucky!!

Sounds like a great day ahead, best of luck to you! I'm hoping to maiden my Tiger Moth today if the winds stay down. I will be looking forward to reading about your flight reports later!

Tomorrow is going to be perfect here finally! Too windy today but a pretty day. Spring is here! Not sure about flying the Mustang as once again there's crappy grass and no pavement. I'd like to maiden my RV JET (have no idea why they named it that cuz it's not a jet) and I'll take the ever faithful Pandora and Seagull. Maybe a multirotor as well.... Time to fly!

Yes it is TTF Day!! (As Flygirl says "Time To Fly")

Burned through my batteries this morning, Pandora-2 and The Waco.  I tried a different prop on the Pandora, an 11x9, but it didn't seem to make much, if any, difference, so swapped her back for this afternoon.  Batteries are recharging.......The weather keeps changing, clouds rolling in and out, but in the 60's and with just a bit of wind.
Played around in it this morning, got the Pandora headed into and throttled back to hover.  It was cool, she just hung there and then started drifting sideways!
Did some pattern practice with her for the most part, then on the last battery it was play time. Split s, loops rolls stall turns, so much fun!

Hoping the weather holds out so I can go again today

Loneflier....Flight report is as follows: First flight was at 7:45 this morning with the FW Iron Ass.  Wind calm and a 4s battery in her. Uneventful flight, great to fly in those no wind conditions. Greased the landing. 2nd flight was with Old Crow 1100mm with a 4s, followed by another flight with Iron Ass and a 5s powering her. Such a nice difference in performance going from 4s to 5s on the Iron Ass.
I then flew the 1100mm Passion Wagon on 3s. Great flight like the others, but this one wants to wag it's tail some, unlike the Old Crow, but on rare occasion she will too.
All in all. 9 flights with the FW Iron Ass, and 4 flights each with the Old Crow and Passion Wagon. The winds slowly picked up to a 14-17mph rate around 10:30. I flew Old Crow one flight in those conditions. A definite pucker factor when landing her. Infact, aborted first approach when close to touchdown. Nailed it second pass. Didn't even use 20' of the runway, the wind was pretty strong.
But I did do 3 more flights with the FW Iron Ass in the windy conditions. She handles the wind very well, thinking the extra weight of the 5s batteries does help, and you have that extra power available to get out of problems when landing. Taking off into those winds is actually easier with her. Tail lifts up almost immediately, a little elevator, and BOOM, your airborne.
Winds are suppose to drop off at around 6 tonight.  Thinking a couple flights around 7 will cap off a good day of flying.
Oh, should mention. No repairs to work on now after flying today :D

                                        That just plain sucks!!
Wind came up here in Cody as well, I'm hoping it'll let up by evening.
Just when I think its looking good, it gusts up again.

                                        OH, WELL!!
It's usually good in the early morning so....

                                          Lon,

Congratulations on the successful flights! It sounds like you had a great time today, and handled the winds really well too. I was able to maiden my Tiger Moth too today, and was more than pleased with it. Like you, the winds were calm this morning, but started picking up by 11am, into the 10-15mph range. The TM handled it really though, with plenty of power. Landings were a breeze too with the wind, she really slows down nicely and sets down easily on the grass.

Anyway, thanks for the flight reports, and congratulations again on your flights today!
