Re: All us newbie pilots, lets share..

Got my yellow (or maybe it's orange!) WACO last week and started the assembly. ROTTEN instructions! I have all the electronics in and working (Spektrum receiver and Freewing gyro). Putting on the wings was next and then I screwed up and put regular locktite on all the screws for the cabanes and struts. 5 minutes later.....all broken and cracked connections on the wings. Total loss. Have to order two new wings but the lower one has been out of stock. SOOOOOO, there it sits waiting for completion. I have been reading the threads about the rigging and I bought some 26 gauge black jewelry wire, that may look OK, haven't decided. Still may use the springs but the wire will hold a better knot without CA. We'll see.

Hey Gman Great job!!!!! That is really nice looking . Was reading the thread about saying you used elastic thread , not sure I know what that is . Saw you got it at Wally World , is it the sewing area ? Again really nice job ,btw your wife helping and getting into it with you is just awesome.<smiley image="smiley_good.gif"/>

          Greetings G56,

          Oh man!!! That is gorgeous!!!!
Might be the lighting, but now I wish I had opted for the Red and White version.
That baby really POPS! The rigging diameter is right on the button.... not too big but definately there.

I am so glad you liked the elsatic thread for the rigging... I always get nervous making recommendations as the experience might not live up to the hype. Whew! Glad this one worked.

Really nice job, buddy!!! You and Mrs. G56 should be proud of this bad boy....

            Hey Guys:
Here's exactly what I bought off Amazon.
            http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G9K3R96/ref=pe_385040_121528360_TE_dp_1
Copy and paste it, it'll take you right there.
I knotted it three times at every tie point, then pulled it up and through the next spring, either tieing it there or threading it through. When it came to the final knot, Mrs G stretched it out for me and I knotted the final knot three times, she let go and presto, nice and tight, trim off the excess and see the results. Same with the double spring rigging, just thread it through the two springs on each end.
The thread is very stretchy thin elastic, black by the way. there's 658 Feet to a roll so if you use it all, start calling yourself Rocketeer because you have waaaay too many planes!! (LOL)
One piece of advice is to CG it before you rig it, it a real challenge (Read: a lot of cursing) to try and thread a CG Machine arm through all the wires.
I wonder if Retired couldn't fix his wings with some Gorrilla glue, I used it to fill in some of Pandora One's fire damage and she's rock solid, might be worth a try before you give up completely on the wings. I swear by the stuff. Diane's boss had someone smash up a carved pumpkin a few years ago, he used Gorrilla Glue and stuck her back together, good as new, now thats some kind of wild working glue!

              OH YEAH!
I forgot to mention, I have an e mail in to MotionRC regarding the landing gear fairing problem and Matt replied.
He's getting ahold of Ryan and Mike to find out what it was that they did to secure the fairings on the Demo ones they built used in the video. This in itself would make a great video

Took her outside in the sunshine, yes the snow melted, got up into the 50's today

The next step will be Minwaxing her

By the way, there's no glue involved yet, not even the rigging, although, I'm thinking that it may need it at the cabans and struts, Retired Flyer was right in thinking that they may need a little more grip

                  Are you kidding me??
That Waco looks even more incredible in the sunlight!!!!
I'm really liking the Red And White more and more with each photo you post.

I just might have to..."No, Bill....Don't you dare ckick on that Add To Cart button"!!!!!.....Yes, dear..... <smiley image="smiley_sad.gif"/>

Can't wait to see her all waxed up!!
I'm also hoping that Mike and/or Ryan get back on the covers application. If they've come up with a sure-fire method for keeping those things on I'm all for giving it a try.

I'm off minwax shopping in the morning......

Re: All us newbie pilots, lets share..

OK guys, here's the answer from Catain Mike and Pilot Ryan:
Hello Dan, Yes, I spoke to Captain Ryan about the wheel sleeves; and what they do is put a
little rubber cement on each attaching area. That way, when the wire flexes of try's to
vibrate them off in flight. That rubber cement flexes along with the wire, that way they
stay ON. Captain Mike said he, just took his OFF. So, use a dap of rubber cement and let
that dry over-night and that should keep them ON during flight. I hope this helps you get
them situated. Thank you fro your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely, Matt Maryan Customer Service Team.

Thanks for the input about Gorilla glue, unfortunately the posts on the wings not only broke, they broke into small, multiple bits that went everywhere and I eventually couldn't even find them all. So I wait for new wings!!!!!

                          Greetings G56,

                          Thanks for sharing that response.
Like I mentioned before, I did what it appears the MRC boys finally did...... after multiple attempts to keep the covers on (not a problem during flight) I just decided to leave them off.

Eventually I might try wraping the gear wire in yellow tubing or yellow heat shrink to at least offset the bare wire look and match it up a bit better.

I think that the Rubber cement will help, but I have another idea to use in conjunction with it, if it works out, I'll let you know. Sorry to hear of the mess, Retired, I was looking at the locktite that MotionRC sells and it warns against using it , I'm thinking that the rubber cement might be a good substitute for locktite.

Ok guys, here it is, the lost step in assembling your WACO. Firstly, who own a Pandora (note the terrible Chinese -English translator)
                              I DO I DO!!
                              And have left over parts?
                              ME ME!!
Finda dis part in spare part leftover container

Ok now verry carefully cuta dis part like so

Now, look at fully assemble landing gear fairing. See the useless screw points we install at top?
Well, see how fit spare screw into useless screw point, becoming very useful. Elongate original hole in spare Pandora part so part fit into very useful screw hole and over landing gear strut at same time.

Now take spare screw and assemble through spare Pandora part and into very useful screw point, making sure to file and adjust Pandora spare part to fit like so

                              Verry Nice!

                              Very Nice!!

And so ends the mystery of the lost Waco landing gear assembly step. by the way you can tell its the ORIGINAL STEPS because A) the Pictures are clear and B) They're in color!
Hope you enjoy. Of course, some of you are undoubtedly better at fabbing parts than I am but this works and it took longer to post this than it did to actually do the step

                              Secure Fairings!!

Well, I have the Waco all repaired except for the prop which is on its way. I'm pretty sure that it was a motor mount problem, but you can guarantee I'll run it through every test I can think of. Maybe she just thought she was a 3D airplane?!
Oh, and the springs are what holds that plastic strut to the fuselage, I think they're more decorative than anything else.
