  • Not for me! I love the bigger planes. They fly more stable, and have more "presence" in the air.

    • It seems almost impossible to imagine a large F-22 not being in their near-future production line-up. There are still a lot of popular airframes to be done in foam on a large scale and this is one of them.

I’m going to sound repetitive again, but hooray for a F-22.....pretty please Alpha. With more repetition my voice and F-22 wish will resonate in Alpha’s mind overrrrrrrr and overrrrrrr again LOL:Silly: as he sleeps....hold on, he’s an amazing robot and doesn’t need sleep. He’s already well aware of what he does and does not or should not produce, I know, but it can’t hurt to knudge a little, he-he.

      • I would venture to guess that this plane is certainly in the pipeline. I thought he mentioned that it can take 1-2+yrs to get a plane ready for production, so if it's not already ready already, I would imagine certainly in the future! In the meantime we'll just hang out on pins and needles.

Ehhh, I hear this all the time. Everyone has there preferences, but to me, Bigger isn't always better. For me agreed Yes and Yes. I can't speak for anyone else! But for me when I'm flying, with all things considered, I really don't feel any real difference in the plane size. Yes bigger is more stable can't argue with this fact. It's bigger, of course it's going to have more presence, especially to spectators. But when I'm at the controls, all sizes feel the same to me. Seriously! Usually smaller planes cost less, and are much easier to transport. I have some large planes for me, HSD A-1 1600mm Skyraider, and a few others. I can't build any of them because I haven't sorted where I'm going to keep them. Have to build special racks to stow them, I have room for (4) large plane racks over the garage door. So the most I will ever be able to have together at once is 4, I'll only have 4 parking spots in my garage. Two are reserved for C-130's.

This is a plain and simple fact, Smaller planes cost less. So unless your cash rich, and own a very large barn, a smaller plane is usually better. At least it is to me. Now the other thingy, yea bigger is always better.

          Best Regards

1-2 years to prep for production. Then production, packaging, and logistics. Wheeew! Man I hope you folks see whats happening here. 1 - 2 years prepping for production is brutal man.

PS, just in case you don't happen to see it?? TIME IS MONEY. LOTS AND LOTS OF TIME = LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY.

            • I'm seeing a lot of these posts hoping for 80mm or 90mm EDFs, and maybe I'm the weird one here, but I REALLY dig the 70mm size. Freewing's BAe Hawk for example is all kinds of fun, has enough scale detail, has LEDs, good stock gear with the option for GREAT upgraded gear, is an absolute blast to fly, sounds very cool, is quite affordable, easily transported with no need for assembly/disassembly to do so, and has incredible flight times.

I know bigger is cooler, but man these 70mm jets really hit a sweet spot! Wouldn't bother me to see more of them - so I certainly wouldn't be upset if "Foil" is a 70mm :)

I also like the 70mm EDF jets and was happy to see them come back like they were years ago by various manufacturers.

However, with the new 70mm EDF jets that have been released I could not justify spending the cash when I knew I could get something I thought was a better value. After upgrading the stock wire struts to suspension struts (which I prefer) such as on the 70mm BAE Hawk, the price is a bit more than $270. For less than $60 more, I could purchase an Avanti 80mm EDF jet at $329 that has a nose gear door, trailing link style struts, nylon hinges, higher capacity components, or a Mirage 2000 80mm EDF jet with similar upgraded components at $299 minus the lights. The size of the 70mm jets are nice though, and can help with transportation, but can be more difficult for some to see in the air, while others may not have an issue with visibility in that size jet.

                  • I like the 70mm EDFs as well. However, even with upgrade gear, grass ops is very hard on everything from the wheels to the gear mounts. 90mm is nice, but very short flight times. Twin 70mm or single 80mm is a sweet spot as far as value for the money, and flight time. As long as the gear are grass friendly. The twin 80s of the A-10 are great. That thing is a flying Machine!

                    • Both good points, guys. I'm fortunate to have a nice paved runway nearby. If I didn't, I'd probably have more interest in smaller or larger EDFs. I know this is silly, but if the new Mirage had LEDs... I'd be all over it.

                      • I was hoping when the V2 Mirage was released that it would have LED’s, but it didn’t. I have already owned the Mirage and the recent changes/upgrades just weren’t enough to lure me back into purchasing a second time. I love the new color scheme though, and is my favorite on that jet. I was very happy to see them pick something bold like that.

                            • given our short-ish 100ft paved field and partial grass field I really like the mid sized stuff. The 80mm avainti is perfect as it handles everything well and can slow down without issue. Too big limits what I can bring to the field and likes a bit longer field, too small and the wire nose gear consistently bends up on the grass even when try to plop it in ( I have enough for take off but usually endup with at least a partial grass landing) Not too big, not too small, JUST RIGHT is middle 80 ish for me.

                                • For the most part I agree 100% Rman. This isn't to say I haven't seen any larger planes I didn't find attractive, the Phantom will be in my stable some day I think. But not until one of the most Iconic Navy Jets ever, gets a proper US Navy livery, or until I feel motivated enough to repaint it, which might be never, lol. The A-4 has been on my short list for a bit now. but that's 80mm. Some planes need to be larger, IE "C-130". Yea I will bite the bullet here for sure. But if it's 90mm, and over 5 bills, it really has to be something I just can't live without. Just sayin. I might have to have me one of those big A-10's some day, maybe? I own (4) large planes now, and guess what. They're still in their box. Still got to build those racks. lol. They're safer in the box till I get a good safe parking spot for them. I hate my planes getting beat up just sitting around.

A jet like the Saab AJS-37 Viggen would be perfect for short fields no mater if its a 80mm or 90mm because it can take off in short distances and it can land in short distances due to its high lift and thrust reverser that can be set to engage as soon as the nose gear is compressed. Plus it could be backed up!

Totally agree brother, however thats how i came to get the fms A10. Its over the 350 level, but i was able to use the tower credit program to pick it up without much pain to the wallet. Otherwise, theres no way i could get a nice plane like that. The cz t28 i got second hand. Or i would have never would have gotten one of those.

                                      • I guess I'm spoiled. I have a Honda Pilot and a 6X10 trailer to carry planes to the field. And my field is 800'x60' of asphalt, with lots of clear overfly area (no trees here in the desert), so I prefer the bigger planes. I absolutely love my twin 80mm A-10, and it's my favorite plane. And it actually breaks down into a small travel footprint with a handy storage rack I built.

But I can understand why people would want the smaller 64-70mm stuff.

                                        I'm still hoping for a 90mm F-100 or twin 80mm F-22 for Project Foil! :)

I am with you, my FW A-10 is a dream to fly, great presence in the air. I really don’t even fly my 70mm anymore. 90mm or more for me.
