    FLYFUN V5 ESC (3S-8S) - HOBBYWING North America (hobbywingdirect.com)
Since I am here, I want to let you know that the FMS Predator 120A ESC and the Flyfun v5 120A ESC are exactly the same, just with different branding. And they work exactly how I needed them to for Reverse Thrust. (I still have to power the throttle all the way up manually after flipping the switch, but beggars can't be choosers)

Thanks for the link you posted, Evan D. These are hard to find in stock, so when they are available, I buy them up. Why are you buying so many ESCs you ask? Because these could go out of production at anytime and they work exactly how I need them to. I use my stock of ESCs for the kits that do not come with throttle reversing.

As a follow up question, is it bad to use an ESC that supports more amps than the inrunner or outrunner require? Will the motor only use as much amperage as it needs, or could I burn up the motor? I am too scared to try it, so that's why I'm asking.

As you think the motor only pulls what it can. If it’s a 100A max set up adding a 200A ESC will not make the motor pull more than 100.

I do want to say that while the HW, FMS and FreeWing appear the same I know the firmware in the FreeWing is different.

      Because of that I have a couple 120 8s V5’s I’d sell cheap.

Just getting back into the hobby I have 2 Skywalker 60’s currently and a few Spekrum Avians I almost exclusively use Spektrum or DID. ESC wise the Skywalker V2 you’ll have to program in reverse but have the option to also do other adjustments off your sticks ( transmitter ) which is super easy compared to Spektrum that they can’t even give the correct way to do it in the remote directions so I’m happy with the Skywalker ESC’s program reverse easy as throttle stick up listen for the tones and it’s set. Want to adjust timing same listen to the tones go to mid or high timing way easier to me than Spektrum

Here’s a screenshot and I can take a picture of the directions with features if you’d like from one of mine

So, it would be safe to use these ESCs to replace, say an 80A ESC that wasn't capable of thrust reverse. I know that would be overkill, but it is a hypothetical (For now.)

I don't disagree that the firmware's would be different, but in general, they are capable of performing the same type of function regards to thrust reverse. I have programming boxes for the different types in order to set them up correctly. That was all I was saying. I through those out there in case anyone was looking for alternatives if one brand was not available over another. :)

Hey shortround91. I learned how to setup reversing on AVIAN ESCs from brianphillipsRC youtube channel. It wasn't difficult once you do it a couple of times. I also stopped using AVIAN ESCs. I changed ESCs mainly because Spektrum ESCs are way too expensive for my taste. At the time, it was the only brand I knew that could do this, so I felt I had to buy them for this feature. It got me thinking that this couldn't be the ONLY brand that thought of this. So I discovered the brands mentioned here, at a significant lower price. I have also stopped using Spektrum receivers for the same reason, cost. I discovered LemonRC 10 channel receivers with gyro built in. They have a tiny bit of telemetry but I didn't really need that. They're more channels for less. There is a learning curve for these but that is with anything new to you.

The aforementioned sequencer can only be activated if the gear and flaps are down (using a "logical switch").

Why would I hit that switch in flight anyway?

I fly in front of my home live very rural so not a lot of traffic however like yesterday testing a 70mm EDF stuffed into the Freewing 64mm F16, thrust reverse has become a very natural operation for me. I set mine on C channel forward switch in the down position reverse forward I don’t even have to look anymore. Have a nice approach as I think I’m over the road ( have eye damage no depth perception) a couple of feet in the air hit reverse switch of course thrust at zero high alpha with controlled reverse thrust. It’s beautiful when done right going to say she stops within a few feet. I like Brain Phillips watch him all the time myself but I have one Avian that I’m guessing needs firmware updated no high speed offered where I live so that is a pain why I have swapped to Skywalker I have to fly with safe if some type because of my eye for now I exclusively use the AR630’s

As a *very* effective airbrake of course!
