Something else I noticed on the 64 F16 was batteries getting super warm looked couldn’t see any ducts for air so I drilled 2 small holes in the nose area. Just took her out for the maiden flight all stock using a Spektrum 4s 2200 50c pack and what a difference in battery temp

You could have I’m on some serious medications was kicked in my eye socket by a horse a few months ago. Lost my depth perception some eye sight with non stop headaches so I probably missed that. I guess I’ll be ordering some 6’s batteries and the set up you recommended for the extra punch

One of the nicer things being retired I have lots of idle tinker time to test things

          That sounds incredibly painful...

          I agree about retirement...

I do not buy Spek or Eflite or Admiral batteries, there are better for cheaper. I suspect the reason yours are getting hot is that you are pushing them too hard.

My recommendation for a great 6S set up is the new V2 6S 2500kV EDF, the HRB 1800or 2200mAH (you won't fit and balance the 2200 in the F-16 but if you decide to get another plane they may fit) and a 60A or better ESC. I did give a link to the Hobbywing ones that have reverse before but I am using a Beatles ESC off Amazon in mine, no reversing though.

My current experiment is with this 3d printed plane. Running the 2200 6S/ Beatles/ 2200 in it too.

I’m still dealing with long term issues from it ribs still haven’t healed all the way but look at it that I’m still alive things could have been much much worse. Doctors all said I’m lucky to be alive the kick went down to my tear duct eye socket had to be rebuilt. I love the thrust reverse I fly at my home but landing area is very tight so reducing the landing length is huge for me. Excellent print, I own a full size mill and lathe lots of equipment haven’t tried 3D printing so far I’m not very computer literate. So with your set up going 6s seems to be a very viable smarter thing to do with a serious thrust improvement for little actual modifications. I do push my batteries pretty hard though am getting 4:30 flight times on the F16 currently

Nice looking print. I'm planning to retire one of my old (no longer available) printers and am looking for recommendations for a new one. . . . . . . ?

Right now I'm housebound with COVID, which I apparently picked up in a crowded airport in the Turks and Caicos last week. Up until now I had managed to avoid it totally despite being exposed several times, but this time it finally got me.

This is a resized 50mm EDF, a friend got it and the 50 flew so well I had him blow it up 127% to fit the bigger V2 FreeWing 64mm but reduce the wing a bit as its really big for a 64mm. Plus it was in old PLA and just not a great print. It turned out 127 was just a little too big so we are now printing another in three color polyair that should be a perfect fit for the fan, stronger and lighter.

Very sorry to hear hopefully it isn’t a hard case of Covid so many variants out there now. Speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 best wishes to you lost my uncle to Covid last year. Hopefully you’ll keep me in the loop on your project looks seriously fun lots of thought going into your plans. I’ve been using DAP plastic wood filler for small repair areas on foam, stays solid is sandable paintable and is actually pretty light. Just finished up my 6th flight with the F16 she is flying fantastic cannot wait for the new parts to arrive to see if I’m able to improve on it with the 70mm EDF

Parts arrive today can’t wait to see Fed Ex show up had a small crash yesterday playing with high alphas. Filled in wrinkles with the plastic wood did a quickly repaint if I’d taken my time never know she’d been down.

Only down side is I have to order batteries and a charger as well. Currently only set up to charge 3-4’s with a Spekrum S155 smart charger

What is your plan? Try the 70 first or the FMS 64? What ESC, what battery with each?

First I am going to try the FMS 64 with the stock ESC see how it flies if I notice any difference then install the 70amp ESC again FMS and then the stock 64mm EDF’s. After install start on the 70mm EDF in the second airframe see what needs to be done for the install there

Ok no FMS 64 EDF yet however the Freewing parts arrived so to the block I went fitting the 70mm EDF in the older airframe. Not bad or hard to do, I do believe in order to see any difference the area where the EDF body ends will need to be reshaped for the increased exiting airflow not to destroy the thrust. I’ll start on that tomorrow EDF installed will need to make a few brackets/hold downs as I had to cut the rear access hatch to fit the EDF and once again will need to be modified to keep airflow smooth as possible. Here’s a few pics and the ESC is actually a 60amp still for a F16 70mm will start the install there after I make a channel for the wiring to the EDF as it’s changed as well. So far a pretty straight refit I believe the EDF has to remain true in the airframe in order to really gain anything why I used the stock mounting holes only trimming the brackets wood slightly. Well this is long enough will keep up to date as things progress

That's great, I can't wait to hear how it flies.

Same here very interested think if all goes well it will be a very good performance upgrade hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow. Flew the F16 standard a hood 15-20 flights cannot believe how much I’m enjoying this jet. So forgiving and alphas amazingly

Ok need a little help on this one, EDF I’m good to go with however I purchased new balllink ends but cannot for the life of me find the ball link stops that screw into the control horns. I received a V1 airframe wings and rudder that I ended up epoxying the old ones on to as the plastic horns are super thin like my other planes. Don’t want to have to go through tearing my new one up to make this one fly any thoughts on what I can do here? I did reshape the area after the EDF have installed clear gorilla tape to smooth out the exiting thrust ( hopefully) about all I need still to do is make brackets for the access hatch to seal it better to the airframe. I’ll include a pic of the mod I did to fit the 70mm EDF, after install a few more servos and wait for better flying weather

There is no getting around that you need the proper balls for the ball links... Motion does sell them separately...
