This is an article I wrote for our Knowledge Blog on painting as a reference:

I am not a builder. Oh sure I can slap a Plug-N-Play together with the best of them but when it comes to any kind of significant build from a kit or ARF, I lack the tools, space, patience, mechanical ...

All you need to do is program for flaps. If you're using Spektrum for example, you would choose "1AIL, 1FLAP", then open up your flap menu and dial in the appropriate amount of deployment, time for deployment, some ELE compensation if desired, etc. You may also have to go into your servo sub-trim to zero the flaps for the starting position.

I need some help! I bought the F18/A V2 a few months ago and loved this plane. I, unfortunately, put it into the ocean a few weeks back. I was able to salvage a the edf and a few servos. But wanted to see if anyone had any tips on buying the ARF version and upgrading the esc and edf to get more speed and verticle climb out of the jet. Any suggestions?

Im also in the market if anyone has a used one for a good deal, I will buy it asap.

Your V2 has a 1450kv motor. You might look into using the motor out of the 90mm Yak 130. It drives a similar fan, uses the same ESC but has the 1700kv motor. Beyond that, you can go to an aftermarket motor and fan that is custom built for more thrust.

I should have added that the Yak fan/motor is an inrunner while your stock V2 F/A-18 is an outrunner. You'll have to get the motor/fan and shroud as a unit or piece it together. An inrunner motor won't just bolt into an outrunner fan shroud.

I think that will be tough. I have 2 x 4000mah, 4s and those won't fit in the battery bay. I highly doubt two 5000's will fit unless you hog out the rear of the compartment and find some other place to stuff the Rx and wiring. A 5000mah, 6s battery already makes this plane almost nose heavy pushed all the way back as far as it will go, but then, all my wiring and Rx sits up against the back wall. I typically fly mine on 4000mah, 6s but flight time is limited to about 2.5 minutes. The inrunner fan/motor from the 90mm Yak 130 give plenty of punch for this plane.

I just want to add a small footnote to the effect that credit goes to Motion RC for indulging me in the acquisition of this model. There were only a handful left and they got me one. It was even a V2.

I think they use tv on these jets cause without they would be extremely boring too fly. I prefer tv any day of the week. I like to have one jet without just for speed butt it becomes boring quickly
