Well the build continues. Did change up on servos. Went to Hitech HS5245Mg for elevator, flaps and HS645MG air and rudder. Using Dubro 2-56 ball links and rod with carbon fiber rod covering. For steering plan on using the 25mg servo from the Carbon Z T28. Fit right into the servo pocket on my Robart Retracts. The brakes were pnuematic but looking at JP Hobbies 75mm wheels with electric proportional braking.
Any more news on this? There's so few out there, info is really sparse. Noticed they are getting ready to release a new Hunter also in the RipMax size.
Taking it slow and have a flying buddy working it too, but servos all in, body flaps working and Robart retracts in an operational. Now starting on making trays for electronncs and positioning batteries for CG. Still need to install the fan and thrust tube, wheel brakes and the list continues. This a first build like this so thinking it through as we go. Going to maiden in the spring at Muncie then take it EDF Jet Jam. Well thats the plan.
Ok so here goes. Went over to build buddy (Flybeast) hangar and did some thrust tube calculations and componet layout for CG.
FSA around 108mm @100% going to run around 99mm @ 85% for best over all performance.
tube length is around 585mm. Thinking on mylar as building material.
Looking at the electrical layout, this seems the best layout for access and CG can be adjusted using the reciever batteries mounted saddle bag over inlet ducts.
Just another update as we head into the final setup and testing.
Completed final layout on the electronics and I added a Demon Cortex gyro to the plane. It is located right before the receiver so it is close to the CG
Completed work on the Thrust Tube assembly. Got the Mylar from EFFlux RC. Still need to black out the tube and rear exit
Test ran the fan unit and it makes some wind, just remember to test when rear of plane is not facing the table with Christmas cards. :Scared:
Next is the installation of the Electrical wheel brakes. I ordered some JP Hobbies 80 mm wheels with brakes from EFFLUX but have an issue with the mounting.
- JP has 6 mm shaft and Retracts have a 4 mm diameter for the axle.
- The JP 6 mm shaft is to short for the Robart axle mount. It would only insert 5 mm if bored out.
- Brake unit needs to be keyed when mounted or will rotate when brake applied. No grub screw to lock brake coil to the axle you need a square strut not round to key it.
Nice wheels and brakes just not for this setup. Looks like I am better off with HK Mad Thrust units. Can save these for a different build.
Next is the final push, wheels, pilot, CG, Verify connections and testing.

yes, CG not really clear. Looked at cougar build forums and found this to be the best explination. Spring is just around the corner and looking forward to getting my bird into the air..
