    Top RC Cougar Build

Just got a Top RC F9F Cougar and looking for information or any guidance on the build. Will use Spektrum 9 channel power safe (when available) Robart electric retracts, Hacker_120_12 cell EDF with a Castle 120 Talon or 160 ESC. Still do not know what servos are the best choice.

    Thanks

Where did you get it from? I've looked on the Gator RC site for almost two years and it still says it's not available

      Hey Patnrflyr,
Picked it up at the Toledo Rc show last week. Mike Mueller at Caiman Distribution would be the person to contact. Gator RC, Robart and Caiman joined up.

Seems all the Top RC models are built very well , with good finishes. I seen one of the Cougar's at the Toledo show very nice.

                    Hey Patrnfly
Not much new on the build just taking it a bit slow as this is my first of this nature. Anyways Robart has still not shipped my retracts and the Edf unit (JP Hobbies 120mm) not here yet. Using Hitech servos and test fit seems ok but need work. I will post pics along the way.

Thanks for getting back so quick. I was just curious about your impressions of the kit itself. Any pics of the unboxing? Overall impression of the quality of the build? Stuff like that...

                        Hey patrnflr,

The kit was well packed and protected. (had some pics but lost them) All the parts were covered in bubble wrap and supported by internal foam pieces. Overall finish is pretty good and fit so far is pretty good. Only thing that is a little off is on the vertical stab. It does not seem flow into the rudder. This is really minor as a small piece can be made to smooth this out. Plan on making minor cuts and adjustements as you go along. Here are some pics.

                              Robert,
Nothing built yet just gathering material and doing test fits. My Robart retracts just shipped so I can start on their install. I will post some pics along the way. Although the Cougar may not make it in time for Jet Jam, I will be there for sure.

Looks like there will be at least one maybe two of these flying models at the Jet Jam!

Well, after being swamped with work and missing Jet Jam  it is now time to get on with the build so I enlisted help  to get it in gear as my scedule has not let up. Most parts purchased except for the J P Hobbies 80mm wheels with electric brakes and a Demon Cortex gyro. Powerplant is a JP hobbies 120edf with a castle 160 ESC powered by 2 Gens Ace 6500 6 cell.

Robart electric retracts installed and functional and now started servo installations on the wing. Found a great inlet duct to edf adapter on Gator-rc that fit perfect. Saved a lot of time on making that. More info coming as we go along. If anybody has any helpful information it is always appreciate especially on the thrust tube build, size and placement or any pitfalls.

Well progress continues. Robart retracts mounted and operational. Did have an issue with the front gear stalling when closing doors. Build buddy :Ligthbulb: contacted Robart and found that they needed 7.4 volt for proper torque and not the 6 volt pack we were testing with. No issues after putting the right voltage. Thanks for the help Robart. Anyways here are some pics of the gear installed.

                                      Well another step closer..
