Hey buddy that's cool! What are you flying and using for FPV? A friend in the club has a big glider plane set up and does a lot of FPV with and I wish I could remember the particular plane he uses, but its pretty neat and he is good with electronics and has his programmed with all the GPS return to home settings and even has a auto pilot setting with several different settings for that. It has a holding pattern and such. That's cool when you see that. I know he did a flight the other week and went 3.1 miles out. When I get back on my other computer I'll send a link for his YouTube Channel.

Cool deal! This is a FX79 with a 2000mm span. It's produced by ZETA science. So far it's been really fun flying and venturing out farther and farther. I'm still on a 2.4 gig radio so I can't jump off the grid with it, but it really is a blast none the less :)

With 200 + members and a site leased from the Army Corps of Engineers in a recreational park, you can bet there is always someone who feels like they should be in charge, gets butt hurt because someone complained about something someone did, and then there's always the 'one guy' who has the situational awareness of a telephone pole.
But other than that, we're pretty lucky to have such a nice facility.
We also have a 400 ft ceiling as we are just west of the busiest general aviation airport in the US.
We have one 600 ft runway and the wind always seems to blow across...
favoring a straight in approach toward the pits.

...that was supposed to be funny.
In reality, it seems to be working pretty good and being the FNG I expect some guff, and while I am pretty tough skinned i spent my first career on commercial construction sites, in the field - not in the office. So I can hold my own when needed usually with a good laugh had by all.
Now I'm a full time flight instructor for a Piper Authorized Training Center - and there's only one. So as word gets out, I am making new friends.
And something I cannot do in Commercial aviation is solo an 8 year old young man, as his father watched with a smile as I coached him through takeoff, flight and landing - did that today.
So therefore, I respect our club as the same professional organization as the ones I work for - even though it is for fun, you gotta know the rules are meant to keep people from harm, including their property. Everyone needs to pitch in sometimes and help where they can - with big groups there are those who turn around and leave on 'clean up' day or just kind of hang around while everyone else works, eating the doughnuts and drinking the coffee.
            which reminds me....
if the frickin' pot is empty make anew one.

The club I go to, they are on the radar for the yearly fees, but the field is full of weeds, molehills, and no fund raiser events at all.
So I have not paid mine yet, only AMA, and waiting for them to ask me why... and have a nice chat.

After moving to the Western part of SD I checked into two clubs. One was 30 miles away and the other 17. One charged $150 per year and I refuse to pay that. The other I think was $110 per year. I go to the field for peace and quiet, that is why I fly alone. I have a bison pasture that is only 2.5 miles from my home. I am at the foot of Bear Butte and the view is magnificent. My field is roughly 150 acres. The only drawback is I have only a gravel road and the pasture. It would be ideal if there were something paved for my tail draggers. Some like the comradery and input from others. I find that I don't need that. I guess I can get that here if I need it. I get most of my ideas from this site.

Boy, someone needs to talk to our club members!!
                  $15/year!
I asked why they don't raise it to $25, the answer is that a lot of people can't afford it.
I think that if you can afford to be in this hobby you can afford
$25/year, two less trips to Starbucks per year and you have it!

That looks like an RC 'dream field' to me, I would think it easy enough to mow a nice grass patch for a runway. Bet it's great when the spring and summer months set in.

Sorry guys, Rifleman, I know I had said told you earlier I was gonna do a video of our Fly-In last weekend, but it rained and I ended up working doing registration and selling raffle tickets and wasn't able to do any video. It rained early that morning stopped at daylight and some was able to get some flights in until the rain sat in at around 1 that afternoon. However, we did still have 24 pilots and was happy with that and sold all the BBQ chicken plates. So, were happy with the turn out we had. We do have a Jet Rally in June and then the Big Bird Warbird Fly-in in September. Hopefully I can get some video in then. Thanks

Let see here, I've only just joined the club in January, so my input is limited and from a newbie perspective.
What I like is.. most off the OT's are very helpful and even eager at times to help a newbie get into the hobby properly and safely. They never seem to be irritated by my, what would be to them, ignorant questions. Between those guys, this forum, and lot's of youtube research I've come into this hobby pretty quickly. Still to cs to put my prized F4U in the air, but pretty quickly none the less. My club field (EVA) has hosted some pattern challenge events that are a joy to spectate. We have a few IMAC pilots, but have yet to see an IMAC event at our field. This would be nice. I do hear some of the members piss and moan when the field is closed for and event, but I enjoy them. Our field is just a carved out chunk of desert out here. So the runway is just hard desert surface, leveled out of course, but some grass area (yeah, in the desert) would be sweet for the park flyers.
Only 'dislike' I can come up with is... cliques. I understand that some members have been around and flying together for a while. But when they shut themselves out to other members I guess I just find it to be rude. They're usually the ones that just give me disgusted looks or eye rolls when I approach them with a question. I tend to get the same responses when I pass along a simple comment... or just a compliment on their piloting skills. Hell, maybe it's just me... my Pops always told me I have an intimidating appearance! LOL

My local club is built on an old landfill. There's methane pipes smack dab in the middle (albeit off to the side of) the runway and the runway itself is a short, bumpy grass field. Although some members have done a nice job keeping the grass short, there's still bumps here and there that cause your model to rotate when you don't want it to rotate (before or after landing) and it's never been EDF or retract-friendly. But most of all the runway itself is maybe 200 feet from end-to-end (with both ends having a fairly significant drop off). So it pretty much disqualifies most of my giant scale or EDFs. The club has been ran by Old Timers who like flying their gas Cubs with giant Tundra tires there, the heck with all these younger whipper snappers and their jets and giant scale stuff. So sadly, even though I have made several friends there, I have been flying solo at the local school or amphitheater parking lot not too far from me for years now.

Neither is ideal but I never fly with anyone around (if I can help it) and I suppose all the obstacles have helped me become a better pilot over all but man how I long for some of those wide-open flying fields I see some of you flying at. I need to retire someday to a flat, dryer climate.

                          ;)

Migrated to Phoenix from Portland, Aros...
                                become a Snowbird.
My 10 day vacation turned into a 30 day working-vacation- by the end, I was moving, despite a promotion and good job waiting when I returned to OR.

                                never regretted it...

Phoenix...I've always thought about Arizona as a potential landing spot for my golden years...I still like the seasons though so have always thought about North Arizona...?

I was more into golf then, and the airlines had lost my clubs...
I had stopped flying by then, even though I was finishing a couple of models underway.
