Will let you know how it all turns out.  Thinking about a sound system next.
I upgraded my ESC to the Mantis 85 on my FW P-51 which has the KV580. And then with the 5s battery, boy did it make a difference.  thinking you will be happy with the upgrades.  Put a little heat on your buddies Zero!

        Hey Lon,

Thats a great idea, But I have a couple Q's because your there and doing that. Does the Kv580 get hot running the 5s ?

Can I do the zip tie prop wedge set up with this combo?

I only have 5 flights logged with this setup
Three flights in November. And two this past Sunday
Winter weather having grounded me between times. Two of the flights was with the prop mod. No temperature issues with the motor. But remember the outside air temp wasn't above 50 when I flew. I'm not a flyer who is into the throttle a lot. So the motor isn't being pushed hard. I'll be keeping a eye on the temp as spring and summer temps get here.

            Thanks G56,
I knew about that option, but never tried it on my P51. I have it like that on my P51 Strega though.
Flew my Mustang 1400mm Ridge Runner today with the new motor and ESC. Much better!!! :D
I think it will give that Zero a run for its money now. Flys with much more authority for sure!!!
Not only am I really liking the improved flight, I'm so glad I got the upgraded retracts and landing gear.
            Oh my. smooth as butter.

And if it comes down to it, I'm so capable of slapping in a 5s batt if I need to. Eat my prop wash Zero boy!

Flyby some guys are using 6s on that setup they say it screams just don't firewall it for too long you could cook the magnets off the motor. Also they say not to use the shim mod while using 6s everyone is scared it will blow apart the spinner.

Oh thats interesting, I fly my Ridge Runner really hard at times, actually all the time. I have a very heavy thumb when it comes to flying my Mustangs. Blowing apart my spinner would be fun to see!  :D Makes me wanna buy another stang and try it. let me see whats on craigs list in the used airplane dept. I smell a flight test coming on video.  ;)

Not yet Fly Boy! I got them last week but I had to work at the race track last weekend and I've been lazy this week about getting them on. LOL! I think I will be fighting them tonight because even though it is snowing big fat wet flakes out right now, it is supposed to be in the upper 50's tomorrow with okay winds so I just might be able to sneak in a flight or two in the morning off of pavement. If that C Clip goes flying off I'm screwed... LOL! I have the magnets ready though! :-)

I wish you the best, I did change my wheels right on the plane. The magnet caught the C clip nicely. But I just thought of something that may help you further. Its a little more work, but is insurance. What if you were to remove the strut from the retract. Line the inside of a card board box with white paper. Pop the C clip off while holding the strut inside the box, and having the magnet against the C clip to. LOL. Or use the bath tub! lmbo! Its an enclosed area and white back ground!  :D

FlyBoy, got them on! Did it just the way we talked about. Took some rare earth magnets, stuck them to a knife magnetically so the knife was magnetized meaning those little ""Jesus!" clips wouldn't go flying off. Used a Gemfan prop adapter as a spacer. Now to go try them out! Thanks for the tip!

Hey fly boy, just curious as to what paint you used on Ridge Runner, the silver that is.
Looks great from the pictures and I'm researching what paint to use on the new '51.

                                Thanks

                                  Hey G,

Thats actually the factory silver. I used just regular model paint for the trim. I did paint over the factory yellow on my Waco with High Temp engine spray paint from the hard wear store. I read about this on the forum and tried it. Turned out AWESOME to say the least. So with that I will recommend the same but in silver color. I had no foam eating issues what so ever and the SUPER HIGH GLOSS SHINE was OUTSTANDING.

                                    WOW! That's stock!
Awesome, that's an FMS isn't it?
I haven't eyeballed the FW P51 yet so I'm not sure how it measures up color-wise.  I did some testing with Testors chrome paint on an old Pandora foam tail and it seems to stick very well, doesn't seem like it'll flake off.  Unfortunately, the Red, White and Blue Pandora colors tend to flake off, but its minimum.  I'm thinking of coating it with the Minwax Polyurethane, I'll try it on some scrap foam first just to see if it helps hold the paint on better.
I'm going to use flight metal tape on the flaps and ailerons.  The wings on the real P 51s were painted silver from the factory, so that's easy.
I know my BBD just needed a coat ( well I put on several) of Minwax and she shines like the sun is always on her

Yes ser, Its an FMS P51. And yes I was impressed with the silver paint as well. Just so ya know though, I like to ARMORALL my planes before I take pics, and or go to the field. Armor all really makes paint shine on my foamys and offers UV protectent while I'm flying on a sunny day. Food for thought G

I must have turned into a real RC junkie, I just thought of another great idea

I have a Roc Hobby P51 Strega Reno Racer. Comes stock with a 10x8 4 blade prop. Up grade to a 11x12 singal blade and you got a little ripper. Improved speed my 15+ mph

So my FMS 1400mm P51 Mustang comes with a 14x8 4 blade prop, So why couldnt I go to 15x12 singal blade on my 1400mm Mustang and get even better performance? Same mod as the Strega, Just on a different scale.
Let you all know how this one turns out.  EAT MY PROP WASH ZERO BOY!

Clear skies and sunshine today, Went for a stroll in my P51. Still using the 4 blade prop. Cant find a 15x12 electric prop any wear. Dead heat with Zero boy on 4 cell. Guess I'm gonna need a five cell, but that seems like cheating. Thinking of doing some carving on the foam for less weight. I know I could shave the belly scoop off and gain some mph, but I cant bring myself to it.  :(
