RE: Ridge Runner P51 Mustang 1400mm. My flag ship

The Long Haul Report: Have around 80 flights on the my Ridge Runner Mustang.  Plane holding up very well. Air frame still solid, all the servos working fine. Tail wheel still the weak spot even with the upgraded retract. Had to lock tail wheel in the down position, and tape the doors closed around the wheel wire. Tail wheel retract stripped the gear from one hard landing, and really was not that hard. No big deal.  Main landing gear working good. Much better than stock for sure. Have around 10 flights on landing gear, new motor and esc. Noticed flight times are shorter by a minute from the motor upgrade. Batts running a lot warmer as well. Overall though, very pleased with the durability and performance of this outstanding air craft. Its still not the fastest P51 in my fleet, but its a great show piece and very fun to fly.
Still flying with the 4 bladed prop. Best I can get is a 14x12 single blade. It does fly a little faster with this prop mod, but went back to the scale 4 blade. It just looks meaner with it.

RE: Ridge Runner P51 Mustang 1400mm. My flag ship

Greetings, update on this beautiful war bird. Around 150 flights at the end of the summer. WOW, with all the upgrades and mods, I am more impressed than ever. With the zero motor, it just flat out screams. At first it really didnt seem to be much faster, but after a few dog fights, and racing around the poles at the air field, it KICKS BUTT! Invested in a pocket radar and the speed is up in the low 90's. Stock out of the box, clocked around 70mph. The plat form is stable and dont notice much wing flex in high G turns. Have not had a singal problem with servos or electronics at all. Thank you FMS and Mrc for making and selling a bullet proof product. Looking forward to another up coming summer.  ;)

RE: Ridge Runner P51 Mustang 1400mm. My flag ship

I hear you !  BBD got an overhaul as well.  After several very successful flights, I upgraded to a Mantis 85A ESC and a 4250 580kv motor along with increasing the pitch of the prop with zip ties.  I also went 17g metal servos all the way around.  The last flight was fine and I landed to change batteries.  Did my preflight and had no aileron on the port side.  Don't know when this died, but had no trouble landing.  Afterwards, I thought this may be a warning to change everything over to metal servos.  Got the mods done and got one flight in before the weather turned sour.  The one flight was in pretty iffy conditions, lots of wind, but even at that, what a difference.  Can't wait 'til next year !!
Probably a dozen flights on her now.
The interesting thing is that the P 51B is very fast even though she's still stock.
Have the new P 40B to try out next year so lots to look forward to!!

RE: Ridge Runner P51 Mustang 1400mm. My flag ship

          Greeting G56, been a while.

I'm glad you love your up grades. What a night and day difference for sure. Thats exactly what I have in mine and it ROCKS!!!    If you really want to even get more speed out her, try a 14x12 single blade and tighten your seat belt. She will cover a lot of ground quickly. Almost as fast as my P51 Strega. I stay with the 4 blade look mostly for she looks mean that way. But when some body gets lippy at the field, The 14x12 never fails to disappoint. Food for thought.  ;)

Hey Flyboy, its got to the point where I wanted to get creative with the planes I have and see what kind of improvements I could make.  So far, I'm impressed, now I want to try a 5 cell battery in her, wish they had a Pro series  cell, but oh well.
I've been looking at the specs of the ESC in the P40 and it says that it can handle right on up to a 6 cell so lots of room for experiments there.
The Pitts is running 3300 6 cells and I would like to try 4000s in her.  Should be a fun year!!

              Greetings G56,

You should be fine. I know the mantis ESC we have will handle up to a 6 cell, I was told and also read on the mrc forum some where that the Zero motor really comes to life on a 5 cell, but runs hot and a cooling mod is recommended.  :)

Gman, MRC does carry a Pro series 5s....
I'm going to order one, see if it performs better than the 5s brand i'm running in the Iron Ass now.

Well I did it!!! I cut a slot into the belly scoop of my flagship P51 and mounted a mobius camera in the scoop!!! It turned out AWESOME!!! The picture quality is outstanding and the camera is protected mostly in the event of an emergency crash landing!!!

Super long haul report: Over 300 flights on my P51. Still going strong!!! Lots of hanger rash, and transport rash in the foam at this point. Dont look as pretty anymore, thinking of total body make over, or ordering a new one just to get the good looks again.
