I did not machine a whole new case, but here is what I did come up with. This will prevent the retracts from breaking at the mounting points. :D

I need to get a patent before someone steals the idea. But I need to raise $350.00 to get it. Not that Patents matter in China, they copy everything with no regard for ownership of rights. However I have been selling them at 10 dollars for a set. So far 20 sets have been shipped, trying to keep up is becoming an issue. The interesting thing is some people are buying 2 and 3 sets.

Sean, are you still selling these? I acquired the P-51 Snoot's Sniper this past weekend that experienced the same breakage. I replaced the retracts, but would love to reinforce them before I do the same thing. Many thanks for you doing this. And if you don't have any, please don't worry. I know this is an old thread.

Ah, many thanks! I flew it for the first time about an hour ago. Three smoooooth landings (my first warbird landings ever). Still think I might go this route for those times I don't land so well. Thanks again!

I received my plane (brand new) with broken landing gear. After reading so much about it, I didn't want to bother with stock replacements and I ordered the pieces from small parts cnc. They are very nice and I'm not worried about the landing gear any longer. However, for those of you using the stock plastic pieces or even adding the reinforcements to the stock plastic, I noticed a couple things. The stock plastic pieces have a counter sink molded into them. The screws used to hold them on are not correct and only make the situation worse. I replaced all of mine with the correct countersunk screw when I rebuilt them. This should take a lot of needless stress off the landing gear.

 That might have been a good thing for you.  The plastic ones aren't terribly forgiving and now that we all know where to get the parts, why would we bother using the plastic one ins the first place.
I have two different retracts one was the older version with the short pin on the end and the other has a blue body with a longer pin, one has allen key type screws and the other has cross head type (sorry the name slipped my mind), but I'm sure that both had tapered heads for the counter sunk holes.

My plane is a brand new V8. I haven't had a chance to fly it yet, but I'm chompin at the bit for sure. Mine came with phillips head screws but they were not the counter sunk type and tore up the plastic gear. I replaced them with extra allen head counter sunk screws. In fact, I've replaced a lot of the screws with allen heads that I had on hand.

Mine is a V8 as well P51D Big Beautiful Doll, also I have a P51B Shangrila, also a V8.  Both fly fantastic, but I personally feel that the D model flies better.  You'll love them.
