I put on a larger/longer, servo horn. I've also changed to some spider wire instead of that "fishing line". Still hooking up the rubber bands, working on something better there (small springs?)

But the difference with the longer servo horn is great! Turn on a dime :) 

If you cant tell by the picture, i bolted the longer servo horn right onto the stock horn.

Thanks for the info, I have considered something similar. My other idea is to mount a micro servo on the float with a tiller bar to connect the two rudders.

Lights, I would like to assign them a switch for on and off. I have tried with no success. Is it me or are the lights on all the time?

Hello XF,
No, it is not you. The lights are wired directly to the +V of the Rx by the 3-way Y cable provided with the ARF so when you power up the system they stay on until power is removed. The only realistic way to be able to turn the lights on/off via a switch on the Tx is to used an electronic switch in between this y cable and the appropriate channel on the Rx.
I have been doing that on a lot of my warbirds using this device.

For example, the landing light on my 1400 FMS T-28 is turned on/off with the landing gear actuation. Off on gear up and On when gear is down. I just Y off of the gear channel with the electronic switch which is connected to the landing light.
Over a year ago I asked MRC if they could stock this device but never got a response, see the below referenced thread.

Thanks OV10 for the sanity check and the heads up on the switch. Looks like something to put on my list of things to get.

My ultimate goal would be to work the lights seperate, have the landing light go on when the flap switch is activated. That looks like it is a bit more complicated.

Getting the lights to come on with the flap switch is not more complicated. You would do it the same method as I did on the gear control.
All you have to do is have a Y with 3 output leads whereas yours flaps use 2 of the leads and that switch uses the 3rd lead and you hook your lights to the output of the switch. Some times depending on what channel is being used and how it is set up you might also have to use a signal reverser too. For example if the lights are on when the flaps are up and lights off when flaps down and you want the opposite action to occur that is when the signal reverser would be used. Maiden flight today. A bit chilly with gusts. Takes off like a rocket but landing on wheels is a bit harder than a belly lander! Then shooting for the runway as the grass is a swamp. A little runway rash on a wing tip but other than that, it lives to fly other day.

Hi Fossj, welcome home! The Flyzone Beaver went together pretty quickly for me. If you're using the floats, be careful of those water rudders. As a tip, the water rudder set does not include those small rubber bands.

Thanks, I am going to run it on wheels for the first while. I have never flown off water so I will make sure my landings are god before attempting water.
Any recommendations on better tires? Size, model?

BE AWARE......the screws for the landing gear are very weak and will snap under any pressure. Replace them with better screws or at least pre drill and lubricate them by rubbing on soap or preferably beeswax......YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ;)

I agree and second what rc-eflyer has mentioned. Also watch how tight you put the screws in on the wing struts. The nuts are only glued in. A buddy of mine had both snap off.

Just an FYI to all of use who own a Beaver, I made a mod to the landing gear screws. I removed the remaining few stock screws that didn't have the head snap off and replaced them with a 6-32 by 1/2" long button screw. These are apex or hex head screws so I shouldn't have to worry about anything stripping out. I was going to use a 4-40 but with the size of the existing hole I wasn't sure the 4-40 would be enough. The 6-32 work great and the hole didn't open up that much. No more screw heads popping off on me not matter how hard I land!

I just got some Metric taps and takes about 15min to do all the holes. Makes things pretty easy. It was either Graysons or Value Hobby and the were a buck apiece

As I stated at the first of this thread, I use a very fine guage wire for my water rudders, and springs instead of rubber bands. This lasts longer, works better, and looks much better. Rubber bands and monofiliment just look cheap...In my never so humble opinion. Doc

Ah, the definitive sign of spring, I took the skis off the Beaver and put the wheels back on. Ready to fly another season.
