Today was a very painful day at the field. My beloved aluminum covered Miss Mitchell suffered an in-flight complete failure of the left prop. This was the maiden flight with a new radio, and the aircraft was out of trim, and I did not recognize that the propeller failed until analyzing the wreckage. While turning final, the aircraft departed into a violent spin and impacted nose first.
The wreckage is pretty severe. Wing spars pulled through completely, the nose was totally destroyed, and the tail section separated at impact. Many of the electronics are salvageable though. Not sure I will attempt a rebuild with all of the work that I had into this aircraft.
Final NTSB Recommendation: For those running the FMS props, I recommend a regular inspection of the hubs, and possibly a replacement every 30ish flights.
