  • On the retracts issues that are cropping up....Out of curiosity?.... I just went back and looked and mine and the two old bad ones I have (right side) and....yes, the left has grease and the Right side ones do not.

At the moment I currently have two Left side version retracts in mine, with the one on the right side using the trunnion from a right side retract unit (Converted Left wing retract unit)

I also have a spare set of retract units I got from MRC and checked them as well for lubrication on the jack screw.....sure enough, the left unit is lubricated but the right one is not.

That's a pretty big oversight in quality Control from the MFG. :0

So that would lead me to assume the gear train inside that the motor drives is probably not lubricated as well? That could definitely be a cause for premature failure and burn up.

                • So I just took the time to do a thorough inspection of my landing gear. Here are my findings:

                  - Both worm gears were sufficiently lubed.

                  - None of the mounting screws were loose (although I've only done a total of 4 landings).

                  - The strut guide screws are securely attached.

                  - Both retract mounts had the two screws holding them in. They were slightly loose, so I tightened them down some.

So it looks like I was fortunate and got good retracts on both sides.

                    • I'm going to buy one of these and take a closer look at it. All these photos of weathering makes me want to take out the ol' airbrush and join the fray.

                      • I've done a few minor items (formation lights, zinc chromate in the gear wells and flaps), but also want to do some weathering. I saw what Brent did on Tony's A-6, and it looks SO much better than mine.

                            Cool job warbird!
I did the same with the wheel wells, now if you want to get the shine down, get some satin Varathane or Minwax. I love your sliding canopy, I've been thinking of trying that too

                            • Grossman56, super easy to do the canopy! I'm not going to take credit since Brandon Moon told me how to do it lol. Follow his instructions on RCG page 162, I might take and cut some foam out to do a cleaner sliding action.
