  • Don't you know it FF. Because what good is a good price on a plane if you have to change the retracts before you can even fly it. To a person like most everyone on the forum it's not a problem but what if your new to the hobby. I know most people want whatever they buy to work when they buy it. If there not going to it should be put in print that certain things are probably going to be a problem and more expense will probably be incurred. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you buy something that is a problem especially if that person had to save pennies to get it. This kid next door wants a hellcat like mine and it broke his heart when I told him that he is going to need probably 100.00 more than the cost of the plane to expect to fly it.

    • With the Eflight retracts and Robart wheels it's now a really nice plane and flies great...I also use a 12X6X3 prop from an LX B-25.

      • I was able to shoot a few pictures of a Dynam Hellcat that flew with us this weekend for one of the flights. I regret not getting more pictures of it in the air, it looked great. The pilot was still using the stock retracts, but I referred him to this thread discussing the Eflite retracts and he said he'd look into it if ever needed in the future. Neat looking aircraft, I can imagine one painted up and weathered down. Faded 'Cats are my favorite.

You can actually see the right retract is bent now lol. Its not the retract for me its the butter soft strut pin. I cant even fly mine anymore without them folding they have been folded so many time. Its one of those is it work it things.

The cat was how I taught myself to fly. Went straight from the little yellow champ to the hellcat.

TI.......I know this is 5 months after the fact but in case someone was doing a search on prop sizing wanted to ensure that they got accurate info.
The LX B-25 prop is actually 14 inch diameter and not 12.

              • I used a master air 3 blade. I would need to look up the size but I want to say like 13x8 or something. Made the stock motor rip hard.

                • I have the F6F Hellcat, it's a very nice flying plane but there's some things you need to be aware of, using the admiral 4s 3000mah you still need to add a couple oz's of weight to get the CG closer to factory recommended spec, however this plane was designed by Northrop Grumman to fly slightly tail heavy which made it a better carrier lander than the corsair, the cowl on mine did slip loose and wound up scraping the prop, you will need to add some small rare earth magnets to help keep it in place, also very important when building, make sure the tail feathers screws are engaged, its deceiving because they feel like they grab when they really don't, so confirm it before flying it, this plane settles in so nicely on approach, big bird but flys light and easy!

                  • This and the p38 are my 2 all time favorite planes followed by the p39. I'm going to pick up this one to replace my fms f6f
