Carbon cub s+ wing strut noodles

My wing struts tend to slip under their screws and look like the noodles they are. I am thinking of taking them off and filling the screw slots in the struts with hot glue and drilling a regular hole. Maybe this way they will stay relatively taught.

Does that make Sense?

In the first picture, one strut is plastic original and one is aluminum- available at LHS. Cut with Drexel and epoxy assembly.
This makes better sense and weigh some about the same.

You mention. LHS, I presume that's a US based company, am I correct? I am in Australia and would like to get a pair like these. The plastic ones are useless.

This is DoctorK. I am having difficulty installing the wings on my Carbon Cub S+. Not sure how the wiring harness fits in and weather or not I have the correct screws (the screw package was not very well marked. Any help on this?

My friend used small star washers, works great keeps it in place. Also replaced wing mounting screws with socket head cap screws.

You have to make them...you can buy 3’ lengths at your hobby shop. The pictures show a length of extrusion which is the next size up, that I used for a different project - so don’t order that size. For the joint at the fuselage you can cut it with a razor saw (Dremel diamond wheel works best) and then use a file to round the inside so that it wraps into the forward strut. Use a little #400 grit sandpaper to roughen the metal at the joint, clean with alcohol and then epoxy. The ends are crimped in the vise or with pliers, then drill holes. For added strength you can fill the ends with epoxy and then crimp and clamp. Once dry, drill your holes and round the corners if you like a finished look and then rub it down with some steel wool or prime and paint.

Ah!! Now I see how you connected the fuselage side joint. Did you keep the strut hollow inside? Or did you flatten it end to end?

Ends are crimped flat so they can be easily drilled. As I said you can fill the end before you crimp, with epoxy - then crimp and let cure before drilling

Got it. Good modeling. I'll make a set . But not till mid September. When I'm finished working at my job. I think they would be super expensive pre made from a hobby store.

Very nice, you might shame me into making a set to replace the silver noodles. I wonder if you tube is heavier or lighter than raw brake lines. I can get those in three minutes.

Did you get your cub together?

my aileron wires I just tuck in with no issues. It is a little fiddly to do and not have them get caught between the fuselage and wing assembly.


The instructions on the packets weren’t the best. I did take the step to grab a metric rule to measure the screws and separate them before driving any in. IIRC they do name the screw sizes in the manual in the parts list and in the step by step.

Oh and I did my basic upgrade to the noodles filling in the strut screw holes and re drilling. Better but not wholly satisfying. I had to take the wing off to fix damage caused by the tree monsters. I am glad I did as I had some hidden tearing on the wing around the mounting screw bushings that was hidden udder that cabin roof cap. The old depth perception ain’t what it used to be.

I watch the old salts, they stay above the trees and dive into the landing approach and within the tree line transition to normal approach. Hmmmm. Then again most of them are flying heavier balsa planes not kite like foam trainers.

They are also round - wings struts are not round, they are airfoil shaped to reduce drag.
