After removing the covering off the elevator servo mounting position, I found it cut to fit a small servo so I was wrong in assuming it also would be a 645mw. Does anyone know the required servos for the elevator positions on the left and right fuse ? HS-85BB ?MRC speak with forked tongue. This model requires 6 large servo's, not 4 as advertised.- Hitec D-645MW High Voltage High Torque Digital Metal Gear Servo Airplane Multi-Pack (4 Servos)
$154.99
2-aileron 2-rudder 2-elevator
Now I have to order 2 more to mount elevator. I don't think anyone actually looked at the instructions where on the front page it clearly shows 6 large servo's. Yes, I know, I should have known better. MRC, you need to change your required parts list.
After talking to HiTec re: HS-85BB Mighty Mini servo it has 3.5Kg-cm (49oz-in) @ 6.0volt
They were the ones that recommended this servo for this application and even with the longer arm feel that it is still overkill for the 1 of 3 flap surfaces. But I will continue to investigate.Leave a comment:

While that is a decent micro servo putting that arm on it and reducing the throws in your radio may be too much for that servo to supply. Big surface, small servo, poor mechanical set up.Leave a comment:

What he said. Building and flying my Cessna O-2 gave me the confidence to attempt this F-82. This is going to be a fun bird to build. But I have 3 cubbies and 2 other high wing trainers I love to fly. It's not a first, second or even a third model airplane for a rank beginner. It's been said many times in forums and magazines and Hobby Shops everywhere. Get him an honest-to-good trainer first. You can build the F-82... just hang it up on the ceiling until you truly know how to fly R/C. When he you or he first flies a trainer, you will understand what I mean.Leave a comment:

My brother and I are contemplating getting the F-82 kit for our Dad. He worked on them during the Korean War. He's built some balsa wood models with us as we were growing up and is currently rebuilding an actual Citabria in his garage at the moment. How much of a challenge do you feel the F-82 might present for him? He doesn't have any experience with RC so far.

Adjusted motor space from firewall at 112mm per the manual. Way too short once cowling was fitted. Had to move to 117mm to get proper spinner/fuselage spacing. Maybe because of the dimensions of the recommended motor from MRC. The Admiral GP5-770kv motor. But all is well.Leave a comment:

There are pics or instructions on esc installation. Also, they forget to tell you there a few more servo cables that must go thru the center wing from one fuse to the other.Leave a comment:

I read an article discussing the F-82 some time back. The article reported that there were exactly three minor parts that the F-82 shared with the P-51, contrary to what many think.
There have been a lot of sport scale/stand WAY off scale Twin Mustangs made from two P-51 models. They look ok flying by at 100mph 100 feet away.
I have entertained the idea of bashing a couple of foam ARF P-51 kits into a more decent rendition of the Twin Mustang, with correct wing planform and correct overall relative dimenions, plus vertical tail outline corrections and some fuselage resculpting. It would still be stand off scale, just somewhat less egregious than most of them.....:)Leave a comment:

I keep looking at this F-82... but every time I research the aircraft at all, I find that this rendition is little more than "cartoon scale" -- like the model designer drew the plans working from memory of what an F-82 looks like, without a photo, let along scale drawings. I suspect they started with P-51D fuselages already being made -- the F-82 fuselages were much longer as well as other differences. The wing span of the model is far too great, and would be even if one were to lengthen the fuselages in the direction of scale, if not exactly right.
And yet... I have looked at some in-flight videos and it sure looks like it performs well. I'm enjoying the three ARF's I have -- and would love to buy another. But more often than not, on the warbirds at least, the scale outlines are terrible. And on the ones that are decent, the gear struts are either too long, too short, too far apart...
And yet I keep looking at this F-82...
As Twowing asks: is anybody flying one yet???Leave a comment:
