The Spandaus are just a bit small and the main wheels and tires are about 1/6th scale. The guns are probably 1/5, or maybe a bit larger. I did the math, and I will 3D print better ones, as well as a more correct pilot. I have a German WW1 Pilot in my file collection, of Richtofen with the Blue Max.

I had a Zirolli DR1 back in the late 80's powered it with a Quadra 35 flew it everywhere including the WW! meets at Rhinebeck, then put it away for several years and refurbished it with an electric motorwas a great plane but I had it for close to 20 years so I got bored with it and now after seeing this new version I am hot for it but need to know some numbers since the Ziroli Dr1 was smaller and fit in my suv very easily with no assembly. So before I bite the bullet want to know some answers but no one responds !!!!!!

I taxied it tonight. In grass, on an 8 cell. Plenty off power on the 8 cell, but will get another ESC to run the 10 cell set up. I will help out with questions, but I can say you MUST disassemble to move it in a SUV. Its 1/4 scale. I tried.

I think very few people have this model, and even fewer post on the net about it. I was hoping to meet others who have one as well. I have heard Tri Planes fly awful, but there is a video on YouTube of a gas powered version.

It will absolutely need ballast forward of the CG. I am looking into casting accurate cylinders from lead, then mounting on the motor mount I fabricated... The noise that propeller makes is magical!

Couple of shots... plan on trimming up this solid block once I have everything finalized. I can easily drill it to add ballast, but I may cast lead engine cylinders from a sand mold. Make that using 3D printed parts. I am also considering placing the motor closer to the firewall, to make it more scale, as this cowl is very thick, longer forward thank it should be. Not sure yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4InPG2IblM, Electrified and flying in Buckeye,Az approx 5 years ago used 1 ,6S ,5000mah Battery mounted on the front of the firewall also was very tail heavy so needed the weight up front. Forgive the messy video was trying to create a story line . I won't be a movie director anytime soon.

                                Vintage Racer,
Found my notes for my Zirolli DR1... Flew repeatedly, got better as I progressed learning how to fly it .
Some Specs E Flight , 160 motor, prop 22X8 gas prop, esc ICE100 with BEC,Battery 6S 4000 mah LIPO Plane aprox 15+lbs.was advised could go to 24X8,which I did and flying time was reduced from 6 minutes to 5.1 minutes but the performance changed quite a bit.

Ok, thanks for the info. I will work on mine this weekend, hope to do a run up on the 10 cell, check the prop RPM. 8500 is the limit. I taxied it on the 8 and I am sure that was enough. Just want extra if I need it.

Just for the folks that might be interested "THE HEIGHT OF THE DR1 from the wheels to the top wing is 30" ,so the next thing is going to be ordering one and putting it in the air. Is there anything else ANYONE would like to share about this plane?? I can tell you this its a fun plane and is easy to fly like my original Zirolli, just have to learn how to land without having it do cartwheels, but we all know that right, lol. As soon as the wheels touch (not before )it calls for UP elevator to avoid ground loops, due to the extra weight added to the nose for balance.

Is this measurement from the axial of the wheel? Did you mean to say, standing on the wheels, the height of the dr1 is 30 inches?

I was told by the English man who works for Motion that the height was from the bottom of the wheels up to the top of the top wing. Just repeating what I was told, with that info I am ready to pull the trigger.ITS not pattern plane but is extremely fun to fly(talking about my Ziroli version) Just so you know . I flew that at Rhinebeck infront of several hundred RC Fliers and I know I didn't fly my best(stage fright). What biplane is that in your picture? I have one that was an arf from another source and its also electrified .Flies better than I do because its a trainer, lol.
