Thanks xviper , should get it tomorrow so will have good look inside the nose bay area. I believe a wedge was inserted under the retract to angle the leg forward to stop it folding .

That wedge can't hurt but it really doesn't do anything with regards to the gear collapse. It was a premature "knee jerk" response to a problem that early owners didn't understand. The reason why the nose gear collapsed so easily was because the stop limit on the gear deployment was too far and the trunnion (that forked thing that rides on the cylinder that is pushed and pulled by the worm screw) could easily pop beyond the cylinder. Apparently, HobbyKing had the stop limit shift a bit so the fork didn't go as far. When you get yours, if you can look at it closely, see where the fork sits over the cylinder when it's fully deployed. You can see if it's too far.
Both of ours popped over the cylinder and resulted in the plastic retract housing cracking. Both were replaced with JP Hobby front retracts (needed some alterations to make it fit), but they are bulletproof now. Nevertheless, if you hit a gopher hole at speed, it'll still rip out the whole nose section.

That's a beautiful piece of engineering and a Godsend for those with early V1 nose gears. I would prefer that the makers of this plane simply used a better retract. With almost anything, making something stronger only reveals something else's weakness.
