Hi, does the pt boat have reverse?
    JH,

Welcome to Hobby Squawk, glad to have you onboard.

I have attached the Support PDF for the ESC.

In that PDF, the instructions discuss the 'boat mode' and in that portion there is a set up for forward, reverse, and brake.

This is done by inserting the short circuit pins in different positions on the ESC.

By the looks of this instruction, the ESC has reverse.

By the way, I would advise that you change you User Name to something other than your email address.

This is only for your security protection, just a thought.

You can contact Aros who is our resident IT guru and all around great guy, through a Private Message for an assist in changing your user name.

Best of luck and the Bancroft PT Boat is a great loking model.

    Best, LB

I am considering buying this pt boat. I have read the entire posts. There has been nothing added as of late. My question have the issues mentioned in the above posts been resolved? I am not great hands on fixer so i really would like it to be mostly RTR. Thanks

So, I ran my PT again with the twin 2800 2 cell Admiral batteries in parallel and everything (ESC and 3 motors) remained comfortably warm to the touch and not HOT. I got a 35 minute run at half to full throttle at scale speeds. Every thing worked with no issues.

Update- I found the problem, a loose connection on the steering servo to the Rx. I pushed it in all the way and everything works fine. ESC and motors are cool once again with the 2800 2 cells in parallel with scale speeds for 30 minutes.

    Rascal 76,
When you put in your Quicrun 880 ESC did you have to get a program card and program it or was it good to go right out of the box?

    Rascal76,
Got the boat new from Motion and it came with that ESC, no lines for water cooling. Haven't put it in the water yet, trying to get all this hashed out before I get it wet. Thanks for all of your input. Appreciate you.

    Hi Warfish.
OK that is the original ESC that burned out in my boat. It is a water-cooled ESC that needs plumbing to get water running thru it to keep it cool. I would bet that if you run the boat on that ESC it will burn out. Mine did in about 4 minutes of run time. That boat needs an air-cooled ESC unless you are willing to plumb the water lines to that one.

How much run time do you have on it?
Did someone install the water-cooling lines?

Did you by the boat new from Motion?
If so they should replace it with an appropriate one.
If you go back to the beginning of this post you can get some of the history of this issue.

The ESC they sent me as a replacement is a Hobbywing Quickrun 880 dual. They are readily available.
This ESC comes without a power connector. You have to install your own.
The only funny part is this ESC comes with two sets of motor connection wires. You only need to hook up one set.

Hope this helps. It's a great looking boat on the water and runs great once this issue is resolved.

Rascal76 can you tell me the Quicrun ESC model # and specs and if it has XT-60 connector?

    Hi warfish.

What ESC are you running in the boat? That will determine what you can run.
I was one of the ones that had the original water-cooled ESC's that wasn't water cooled and burned out.
The replacement was Quickrun ESC that can run 2 to 4 cell batteries.
I'm running 3 cell 5200 mAh. The boat really needs the voltage increase to perform the way I like it. Really doggy with provided 2 cell.

The motors can take a lot of voltage.

Capacity is only limited by the size of the battery tray.

I'd like to get spare batteries for PT 596. Can't find the 2800 mAh battery that came with the boat, not even from Motion RC. Are there other LiPo batts with different mAh's and discharge rates I can use that won't burn up the motors or ESC?

Here's a picture of mine. I swapped out the universals for dog bones. Other than that, it is the same.
