I dunno......It was the original Idler that came from the factory on the brand new tank.

It sounds like your idler wheel was fine but that the track was either not installed correctly or while you were driving it the track slipped (de-tracked) off it’s correct idler wheel position. Many times this happens and the tank will continue to run but the track is now slightly out of line. It is usually caused by the track not being tensioned properly. This is not an uncommon occurrence with most of the modern tanks and heavy type German WW2 r/c tanks. The real ones have/had the same problems.

AHA !!!! Thanks for your suggestion, karltrek. 😊😊 I checked, and found the idler was indeed riding on the wrong area of the track. I had never thought to consider that, because it was the original factory installation, so I assumed it was installed correctly.. LIve and learn......

+1 on that. The tracks on my older Panther frequently come off the idler wheel. For me, it’s a combination of old suspension and incorrect tension. Gonna have to fix that one of these days....

So it was on mine. But only on one side. It would seem that it was installed wrong at the factory. Here is how it should look. See the images.

Apparently it was a factory error. I fixed it after I saw your posting. I also noticed the idler overlaps the nearest road wheel on the right side, but not on the left side. I don't know if I can do anything about that. Great close up shots, by the way !!

Do you know if it's OK for the idler to overlap the edge of the nearest road wheel ?

The idler should not overlap the road wheel. However, the main drive sprocket does. Can you post an image? Make sure all the road wheel suspension arms are tightened down all the way.

It is just a very small overlap,. maybe 1/16 of an inch. probably not a big deal at all. Might be able to adjust it out by using the track tension adjuster, if you think I should, or perhaps just leave it alone because it runs just fine as is.

I have a Heng long Leopard 2a6 that I got two months ago and had the same issue. What i did was I plugged the battery into a hobby grade charger(not the one it came with), charged it as if it was a NiMH battery for ten seconds, and it seems to have worked.
