  • Torro M4A3 Sherman IR issue

I ordered 2 tanks from motionrc, a Tiger 1 and an M4A3 Sherman. The Tiger 1 responds to IR hits correctly and has a little jolt movement. The Sherman however does not respond at all. I tried swapping the IR receivers on the tanks and got the same result so I don't think it's an issue with the receiver itself.

    Are both Torro?

Torro are only IR compatible with other Torro or Taigen tanks.

Try shooting itself in a mirror. Check the 5 pin plug in the motherboard. sometimes they are loose in the socket or one of the tiny wires is broken.

When I first unpacked it, the turret wasn't making any sound effect when firing, doing the muzzle flash, or recoil at all. I took a look inside and noticed the "Infrared Port - 5 wire turret cable" was unplugged (see wiring diagram). I plugged it in and it fixed those issues but I still get can't the IR hits to register.

Attached some pictures of the wiring, not sure if it helps. If someone else has the same model can you compare the wiring to my pictures and see if anything is off? I attached the wiring diagram also but it looks like it's slightly different in my model than in the diagram.

First thing is to check that the IR bulb is working. Simple way to do this is with your phones camera as it will pick up the IR light. Place the camera on video mode close to the bulb looking straight at it down “the barrel”. While doing this fire the IR system. You should see the bulb light up slightly. If it does not you most likely have a bad bulb causing the problem.

if it does light up then you have another issue.

What about the 5 pin harness in the tiger? You know the M4A3 is emitting and the Tiger is receiving. But you don't know if the Tiger is emitting or if the M4A3 is receiving. In your pics, the Sherman looks good, but you didn't post any pics of the Tiger. Did you try to fire either one at themselves in the mirror?

Ok yup, the problem is the IR bulb on the Tiger as Rubicon99 mentioned. It didn't occur to me that the problem could be with the Tiger. I looked more closely at the IR bulb on the Tiger and it's not even there, it's just an empty hole. I unlatched the top part to get a look inside the turret section and I can actually see the bulb just hanging loose inside of it. So I guess I'll have to open it up and put the bulb back in place because there's no way I can get my fingers in there.
