  • Painting tanks

I’m new, very new, are there sites I can go to that explain in detail how to paint tanks….. I’m considering buying an unpainted tank(cause that’s all that’s available) and would like to paint it in a “Winter scheme “……all advice will be appreciated….. and are there any tankers or “tracks” in the Philadelphia area

YouTube; Andy’s Hobby Headquarters produces many excellent painting/detailing/weathering clips.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Also on YouTube look for Panzermeister36 videos. They are excellent.

Painting the tank with winter scheme is a good and easy start. Here is my technique. I prime it first. Then I spray the original color on using the enamel paint. Then I spray the acrylic white paint over it. Then I use a Q-tip, dipping it with a little acrylic thinner and, wipe it off at all the edges of the tank until it shows the original color beneath. I also use the toothpick to scrape the white paint off here and there. It is up to you of how much white paint you want to wipe off for your purpose. Then I weather all the dirt collected areas with a mixture of acrylic brown/black and thinner.

I put down a base color in an enamel paint, for german, I use a red oxide, then spray it with hair spray one that dries. go over that with an acrylic panzer gray for example, then 10-30 minutes later, I use an atomizer sprayer with water in it to mist an area I want to work with to get it damp and strike at it with a stiff bristle toothbrush, the paint with flake off, the longer you let the acrylic sit the smaller the paint chips and flakes will be let that cure. I like to use a matte ename/laquer over that, light coats so as not to mess with the acrylics. hairspray again, and then using the winter scheme example do the same process over with your white. matte clearcoat over that, and then go through your other weathering processes, streaking, washes, pastels, pigment dusting etc.

ID:	323563 this is an example of that technique, in addition to a splatter tip on an airbrush for spring mud. Click image for larger version Name:	Travis PZ4.jpg Views:	0 Size:	209.5 KB ID:	323562
