What a great set of pictures. It looks like you all had a great time.
Nice to see a few infantry deployed. Has anyone come up with a way to simulate them in the battles?
One thing puzzles me. I see what seems to be the same tank, sometimes with a LegoDei ir reciever and in other pictures it is using a Tamiya ir reciever. Were the owners just seeing which they liked better? Or is there enough difference that battles require all participating to use one or the other in order to be fair? Is one better for congested terrain where ranges are short and the other better for open ground with longer ranges?

I think what you are seeing is folks trying out new receivers. Lego DEI was at the event selling his products. I personally bought a couple more Lego IR receivers and like others was swapping them in and out of my tanks.Originally posted by oldwolf View PostWhat a great set of pictures. The Lego DEI receivers are actually more sensitive to receiving hits than the Tamiya IR receivers. They are also lower profile. So for city fighting they are slightly better because they allow for your tank to use cover more effectively yet will take hits easily when you expose your tank.

Thanks for the response. So there isnt a standard height above turret and/or obstructions such as open hatches or machine guns?Originally posted by Rubicon99 View Post

I think if you use the figures around the mines that would be like a small infantry squad level interaction Vs the just drive by and get clobbered by the mine.Originally posted by oldwolf View PostWhat a great set of pictures. It looks like you all had a great time.

There is no height or obstruction requirement as long as the IR receiver can be hit from 360 degrees at a distance of at least 15-20 feet. That is the general rule of thumb. Must note: that the IR bulbs (LegoDEI) and or internal mirror (Tamiya) of the receiver should not be “off set”/“twisted” in a way that does not take direct frontal turret hits past 20 feet. This would give said tank an unfair advantage and be considered cheating. It is easy to spot and we do call these players out.Originally posted by oldwolf View Post

The Tamiya IR receiver are old technology and it is much easier to block incoming IR signals from being registered so they are set higher on the tanks. The LegoDEI receivers are far more sensitive being they have four IR receiver bulbs vs the one the Tamiya uses. As such they can be set much lower and still receive hits just as reliably as the high mounted Tamiyas.

I like that you all base your standards in practical functionality tests. So, detection bulbs facing direct front sides and back for legodei units. And low profile mounting is ok. Nice, makes it much less obtrusive.Originally posted by Rubicon99 View Post
